Difference between 505 01 oil and 505 00?
« on: November 01, 2010, 02:24:27 pm »
I just wondered if anyone has experience of this, I asked the dealer what oil was used in my 2.0 DTi when they serviced it last week as i wanted to top up with the same oil. they said shell helix 10w-40, I went to buy a top up bottle and the shell helix isn't the correct vw 505 01 grade, the only shell oil that was, was a 5w-30.

Castrol magnetic 10w-40 is 505 00, but what's the difference between 505 00 and 505 01?

As startup now sounds a little rough should I just change the oil myself or ask the dealer to do it again?

Cheers, rob.

Also I just wondered if anyone has experience of mixing oils and would this be a problem if I just topped up with a 5w-30 oil from another company?

Cheers, rob
