Guest and members, it was disabled for guests as of last night  :happy2:

I am running some more checks on the indexes now so expect things to slow down for the next hour or so.

The speed is fine for me but I seem to have lost the search function.

Good idea to disable the Search function for guests anyway. The ability to Search is invaluable and it's only fair that registered members' use of it shouldn't be compromised.

I only experience the forum slowness (loading) randomly and never as long as 11 minutes as reported.

Great job you're doing, Steve.. Great forum  :drinking:

....Me too but I expect it's only while Steve does some tinkering under the bonnet.

It disabled for everyone while I update the indexes. It's 45% through and it's been running 2 1/2 hours, as soon as it's done I will re-enable the search function.

Ahh . . OK thanks

Yeah the search function is wonderful, it stops me from posting up lots of numptie questons when the answers are already at the touch of a button  :happy2:

+1 on Steve's point. Some of these things aren't really essential and do cause an unneeded load when online.

what about limiting the amount of times users can search in a particular time frame?

say 15 seconds or so?
Including the "new posts" button. I do hammer that a lot!

....I think that people will find that extremely frustrating, Jay. I'm sure I would.

Sometimes I need to do more than one Search in quick succession in order to post some helpful info to someone or to a thread... I don't want that process to take time or delay me.

I take it people haven't seen as many slow downs in the past 24-36 hours?
