computer help required-part 2
« on: August 04, 2010, 07:23:16 pm »
hey up guys.

i have my niece over and whilst on my laptop she tried downloading some program to turn profile pictures into a Navi (avatar) face.  Except somewhere along the route, i think she has downloaded something else which i cant seem to find.  or allowed something to open without permission when ever it wants

Essentially if i leave my computer on for ten minutes, about 8 windows explorers windows will have opened with advertisements on them.

ive tried deleting all internet history/passwords etc, ive tried deleting cookies, ive tried resetting internet explorer back to its default settings, but to no avail

any computer guys any idea

Something malicious by the sounds of it, malware or a virus.

If you've got some AV software make sure its up to date and run a full scan

Download malawarebites  and run it, http://www.malwarebytes.org/.

It would also be a good idea at this time to disable system restore then re-enable it.

If you can do it, I would also run an online scan from one of the big AV players. I like House Call myself for this,  http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/

Yes, it will try to fix as much as it can if you give it full permission to do so at the end of the scan.

MalwareBytes works differently to AVG - the latter being more a virus checker. MalwareBytes is great software.

Try Microsoft Security Essentials too for future protection

just tried the spybot which found more 48 more infections after the malwarebytes program had already cleared 324 infections :surprised:

the thing is it wont remove it unless i pay out for the full spyware package.

anyone have links to the free version please

ive just shelled out for the spybot software to keep allow me to sort out the desktop and the 3 lap tops in th ehouse.  everyone, is absolutely riddled with malware.  cannot believe how much there is on these computers.  my desktop is now 100% clear of all malware
