RNS 510 GPS Antenna
« on: August 06, 2010, 04:54:55 pm »
Hi Guys

I've just fitted my RNS 510 and have a issue were the sat nav takes around 5 minutes to work out its not in Germany?  The Antenna is sitting straight below the air vent on top of the arm which opens and closes the top vent. Anyone else have this issue, any one recommend an alternative location for the GPS, or maybe I can upgrade the Antenna? Cheers.

Version C and the latest firmware, yes the town is Regensburg. I get about 5 out of 8 but it takes around 5 minutes to pickup anything.

Sounds like Resenberg syndrome. Firmware needs sorting out.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I have the rev c and the same issue. Seems to default to Germany when loses signal such as in a underground car park or in a built up area. Very annoying if you dont know where your going ! Then takes ages to sort itself out even when finds a signal.

My antenna is in the same spot, so that sounds like the problem.

It's not the location of the antenna - it's the firmware!

Are you sure you have a C version or is it an earlier version with later firmware on it ?

Its a version C unit, well thats what I was told, how can I tell? Its running firmware 2680. It will only show germany if the cars been off for a while if its just off for 30 mins it will show my current location when I turn it back on. Displaying germany while its trying to work out where it is, isnt really an issue, the main problem is it takes so long to track a satellite, having to wait 4 minutes before I can set off is a serious ball ache.

I think it may be a canbus issue, I'm on a K Revision. But as I say fixing the Regensburg issue I dont think will resolve the main issue of how long it takes to acquire satellites, I may be wrong.

just checked on the secret menu under version the last letter is C, I would have been surprised if it wasnt a version C as the seller sells a lot of units and has a good rating.
