....First MOT!!?
« on: August 11, 2010, 11:41:45 am »
Hi guys & girls,

just under 2 months away from the the 3 year old mark, meaning MOT time  :sad1:

Question is do I use the main dealer or an independant one? (how soon can I apply etc)  ... I am also in need of the 40k service almost which I want from the main dealer for the stamp obviously, plus a few small warranty issues.

Advice much appreciated!  :drinking:

MOT can be done up to 1 month ahead of it being required.
I'd get it done at a dealer early, so its still inside warranty, then if it fails on anything it might be covered and can be put right at the same time.

40k service will also include the DSG Oil and Filter change if you have a DSG car.

From what i've read on here, shop around for servicing as prices seem to vary considerably

VW ask £50 for MOT round my way, I tell them to stick it.
HiQ Tyres do mine for 35 smakaroos.
Nationwaide tyres sometimes do MOT for 27 squids.
You don't have to have MOT done by VW to keep your warranty intact

Hadnt considered price TBH - a friend works for VW so i only pay £20 i think it was, or £21. Altho for the sake of saving £15 i'd still put it in to the dealer to do because then once there they can look to resolve any issues at the same time whereas if you do it elsewhere and it fails on something that is covered by warranty you only have 14 days to get it to VW to fix and then back again to the tester to Pass and they arent always that quick to get a car in, diagnose, get parts etc etc

Book it in for a free health check while its under warranty - I did that with mine just to make sure its was all in good working order - then went elsewhere for the MOT

For the past two years I have got my MOT done in conjunction with a service (at VW Huddersfield) and they have charged half price for the MOT, £25 I think.

VW should price match an MOT with other garages within 5 miles of them, my local dealer have price matched £25 before.

.
Recently had my third MOT and wouldn't go anywhere other than my VW dealer who know my car very well. I think I got my first MOT free. Paid £50 this time but I get other favours. As long as my suppliers are good to me and my car, I'm loyal to them. For me it's all about trust and relationship.

Recently had my 4th year service and was offered the £299 service deal when I booked it in.  It includes 2 services, 2 MOT's and a brake fluid change (although it doesn't mention that in the link).  Might be worth looking in to as you want the VW service stamp.
