Hi guys,
Just got a mk5 Gti, and i'm looking to upgrade the sound system. Basically i want to upgrade the 3 way components up front, (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/10642.html any good?) and add a small JL audio subwoofer which i already have in the boot. Both are going to be powered off a 4 channel Phoenix Gold amplifier.

I havent had the HU out yet (RCD-500), but i presume that there is no pre-outs ? I Have looked into line output converters, however i was wondering if there was a remote on the loom i could use for the amp.
Ive looked at a couple of line converters and some are a direct speaker to rca conversion (first link), and the more expensive ones allow you to splice the HU power supply and create a remote from that (second link).

Any help or advice would be great.

Cheers
Alan

Just been looking at some other threads and i think the headunit is actually a RCD300 if that makes any difference

None of the 1st generation headunits (RCD300 or 500) have pre-outs so the line level convertor of some form will be needed.

The other options is a Blaupunkt OEM Integration Amp like the THA-555  :happy2:

Cheers,
I'm just guessing at the HU model by other threads on here, the cars a 57plate if that changes anything?
Do you know if i need to get the line converter which has the remote connection or will there be one on the loom for the current HU.

Alright guys,
Had the headunit RCD 300 out a minute ago, looking to wire up my amp now. Trying to connect up my remote for the amp to a switched (ignition) live, there doesnt appear to be one going to the headunit, tested with a multimeter and both appear to have 12v with ignition on and off. Terminals 15 and 16 on block D if anybody was wondering.
Anyone got an idea of an alternative switched live i can splice my remote onto?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Alan

Think i have it sorted now. Just running it off an unused fuse holder in the fusebox which only has power on it when the ignition is on. Should do the trick
