ok mate,

from what iv been reading i thought you could put clusters of 972 and below in a stock 972 car but not 972 in a stock 970 or 971 car??

if that makes sense? im sure darren will put it right though

Sean Maloosheck who did the original vwvortex highline diy thread basically worked out if you go into the bin files and save them you dont need to even need the skc code, try going into the read/write data then do me a screen shot of that, if you have another go at it and let me know when you are doing it ill go through it on the phone with you...

Apollo my cluster was 961B i then had a 971F and now have 972FX R32 cluster has long has your car is before sept 2006 and the cluster is on or before 972 then you should be fine.

Darren, you are absolutely right...

For anyone interested I found this;

http://furmanka.blogspot.com/2008/02/mk5-mfd-plus-hi-line-cluster.html

It shows a 'different' way to the VWVortex way, this way as Darren is saying, using a save/open method which is far easier.

Can't sodding believe that - happy obviously in one way though! Now I gotta wait til works over tommorow to try :(

Appolo > As discussed though I will sort you out either way!

yeah thats what i thought morty,

trying to find a 972 diesel cluster was proving to be such a pain i thought id go down the mk6 mfsw route with maybe an earlier cluster instead of the 972 and the mk5 wheel with new button layout!

even though iv already got all the stuff for the mk5 mfsw swap.

did get the mk6 wheel for a steal though!!

No worries at all mate, ha ha I was quite a noob with my MFSW I got VW to do it  :ashamed: was too scared of the airbag going off on me!
If I can manage to code the dash all up tommorow then happy to help mate! I got the MFSW with later MK5 buttons (it's an ED30 wheel).

And Darren thanks again as always (presses thanks button x 100)

Weirdly, that page doesn't mention key coding! So looks like will need the VW Vortex guide & That guide almost as a combo!

Highline dash - Fitted & Working!
« Reply #53 on: September 02, 2010, 09:55:56 pm »
Hey folks! This evening marked a success, I set out to change to a highline dash which was a failed attempt last night... After Darren (MortyGTTDI) mentioned there is a 'easier' way, everything became that bit more simple!

I came back from work, and at 8pm set out to install and program the highline cluster - it was done shortly after! I even enabled a couple of extra things like auto door locking at 10mph and unlocking when taking key out...

Anyway, all seems OK so far, I am able to control my Alpine stereo through the MFSW, the track select works, the star button mutes the sound, the OK button, when in 'Alpine' mode, allows me to switch between Tuner, iPod, Aux, USB etc

As for the highline options, I took some photographs, sorry about the quality, it's an iPhone4 but the flash was getting a bit carried away due to it being nighttime, and me being rubbish with it!

All in all very happy! Now I just need to work out how to code an extra key, I only have 1 key, but have a brand new blank transponder and flip key already cut to the car so just need to program them to match is that possible or dealer only?

Also, not sure if im just being paranoid! But im sure my wipers were 'juddering' every so often, like as if they are about to move but the wiper motor is stopping them... They do work as I tried them manually and thats with the 'auto' setting on, I think im just being paranoid though!

No fault codes (apart from the radio but thats due to me having an Alpine stereo and not a stock stereo) I did the adaptation via VCDS to clear the ABS & Steering errors thanks to Darren & Teutonic_Tamer for there help on here last night :)

Sean

Sean the wipers do move about,  they try and go back down into the bonnet when not active for a length of time...they also move down when on the motorway at speed.

Glad you got it sorted mate,

Darren

Hey guys :) Many thanks, not bad considering when I bought the car I said I wouldn't mod it.

So far i've done the Stereo/Sounds, 18" Monza 2 Upgrade, Servicing + belts/pumps/dsg oil, ED30 Paddled MFSW, New DV (d revision), Cruise control and Highline Dash upgrade - In 2 months ownership!

I think next... Is 2 new tyres (lol the 2 front ones are brand new but 2 rears will need changing) then a refurb on the wheels ( I got them very cheap! But they are a bit scuffed hence low price). And then I reckon a Revo! :)

Sean regards the extra key, use ross tech website for the immobilzer part but the remote locking is easy...just go into module 46 convenience controller and then adaptations channel 2 is for key learning, put a 1 in the value and save it then take the keys out of the ignition and press open or close on the fobs you want to code until they respond to the locking...this needs to be done within the 15 second time frame.

Cheers

Does this mean you do not have to buy the key from vw?!?
Standard: Rear parking sensors, Parrot Bluetooth

I don't think you have to. I thought there was a way of coding another key without VCDS? Something like put the first key in, take it out and then put the second one in.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
