RCD/RNS 510 - K CAN Gateway
« on: August 10, 2010, 05:01:06 pm »
Apologies for asking something which may have been asked before but how many people have successfully fitted either an RCD 510, or RNS 510 (with firmware above 1100) to a car with a K revision CAN Gateway?

So many people say you need revision L or later to fit an RCD 510. I have an 07 plate Edition 30 and want to fit a RCD 510 - I'm pretty sure my gateway will be a K version but I'm getting that double checked tomorrow. Will I need to change my gateway to avoid the battery drain problem or not as as few people think not?

Thanks in advance!

I'm driving a 57 plate Edition 30 and mines on 1KO 907 530 L if that helps. No problems with flat battery and RNS 510.

My Car has a K revision Gateway and i have an RNS 510 on 2724 firmware with no battery drain problems.

You need to be a member of VWNavi but if you look at the first post in this thread you can get firmware for the RNS-510 that has the VUCI from earlier firmwares which stops the battery drain problem.

I've just fitted a rns510 Ver C with bluetooth to my 07 which is on K revision can. Most things work although voice control dosent and the satnav has an issue where it thinks its in germany until it gets a gps lock, which can take up to 5 minutes. Both things may be fixed my coding the unit which I havent done yet, ive only plugged and played so far.

The issue is your firmware.

What firmware have you got?

You need to download the latest firmware (2760) from VWNavi

Burn that to disc.

To load firmware is pretty straight forward.

1. Unlock your car > Get in > DO NOT PUT KEY IN IGNITION
2. Power up the RNS-510 without key in ignition > eject any CD or DVD in the RNS-510 insert your Firmware CD
3. Unit will restart and after a couple of minutes it will ask you to press OK > wait a couple more minutes and you will get another OK to press.
4. Leave the update to run for approx 50 minutes > once it’s done eject the CD and reload maps from DVD.

Just be aware you can brick the RNS if you have a dodgy one (i.e its been opened up and the EEPROM soldered to reset the code) Only way to tell is check to see if the security seals are still intact. If they aren't then you run the risk. If they are still intact you should be ok :happy2:

I'm probably going to go for an RCD510 I think but it's positive that you've fitted an RNS 510 Version C to a car with a K CAN gateway. No problems with the battery at all then?

Thanks to everyone who's replied

I had my car scanned and it revealed the following:

1K0 907 530K
J533 Gateway H04

H04 (Hardware)
0021 (Software)

Does this fit with other K CAN people?

Cheers!
