18" monza refurb
« on: June 08, 2010, 12:31:04 pm »
Hi all
My wheels are not to bad with the white worm at the minute but I want to get them done as it's niggling me!!
I'm not bothered about different colours just refurbing them back as good as they were. (unless anybody can suggest a colour / colours)
I am in Derby, any suggestions where I can take them from peoples experiences?
What price am I looking at for 4 wheels?
Any pictures of ones that have been done in the area?
Thanks very much

This is from my research a while back. They are listed in order of perceived quality (i.e. the best at the top) -- this is just a perception thing based on research (a combination of the forums, the company websites, and speaking to them on the phone), not experience. Matt Ball from Rimfurbish is a really nice guy. I haven't used any of them though. Also note the prices are very specific to the wheel type (hence my description below).

18" Monza II from VW Golf GTI
Diamond Cut Face, Anthracite Infills

A1 wheels are also popular. If you speak to them nicely you may be able to pop up and back in a day which I'm doing next week.

Ant, I am going to probably use the below company unless there is anyone else locally that is better. Just saving the pennies at the mo.

NO they are sh*tt, done by hand. They did mine and tried to rip me off on price as well. AVOID!!!!

Lepsons are best on price for a proper job.

One of mine is currently with Spit & Polish. I've heard good things about them, I'll report back on Tuesday when I get the wheel back!

Interesting, I had recomendations from people on another VW site and a VW dealer that sends wheels to them for refurb. What was wrong with the finish on yours?

I guess the recommendations that you have may be for standard refurbs. Diamond cutting is different and my view is that refurb means they look like factory.

I got pinholes in the lacquer, I dont think they stripped them, just cut and re laquered them, sadly that meant lacquering some brake dust back on on the grey bits. Because they are done by hand you lose the sharp bevel on the edge.

You get what you pay for.

Nope they were for diamond cut monza 2 alloys. When I called them they said they can recreate the finish and strip back. The prices charged seem comparable to the others mentioned on this thread. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience.

Do you know of another place in the St. Albans/Hemel area that can do a good job? I can't really go to Swindon or Gillingham!

Just thought I would provide an update on this. Had one wheel back from Wheelrefurbishing and was happy with the finish. Full refurb for £60 and one week turn around. Guess the test will be to see how they are after several months but so far so good. Although I am sure the other companies mentioned are good they were just too far from me in the end. especially with only one set of wheels to work with.
