Help! Warning lights on!!!
« on: August 21, 2010, 11:16:18 am »
Hi guys. Went to wales. Driving back, the tyre pressure, abs and tps lights all came on.

stopped on the side of the road, turned off ignition, turned it back on and only the abs remained lit. Car seemed to drive fine and the brakes are working well as is the clutch.

Drove on slowly and all three lit up again whilst driving but doesn't seem constant. Twice now all lights cut out for five seconds and came back on again.

What should I do? 60 miles from home. Do I press on or call breakdown?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

There's also enough brake fluid in the reservoir.

Those lights normally come on when the battery is disconnected.

Try driving it a little more and the basic settings may be completed.

Still hasn't turned off. Currently at services for a break.

Car has driven fine. Manual says abs/tcs are on the same system so if there's a fault with one, both will light up. Don't know why the tyre pressure light's on.

Car hasn't been touched mechanically for a few months. Drove down to Wales fine. Started off back fine too. Lights came on but there's no warning in the midline display. When I restart the car, they go off except abs which stays solid yellow. But after driving a few yards, the other two light up and stay solid yellow too. A couple of times, going around corners, they seemed to turn off but then turn back on again.

20 miles 30 mins and I'll be home and will do a vcds log.

The tyre pressure monitor is linked to the systems uswel I think. It measures the rolling radius of the wheels and not the actual pressure in the tyre.

Car drove fine all the way back home. Obviously with the wet weather, I drove more slowly and carefully than usual. 60mph on the motorway.

Did a VCDS scan:

            003 - Mechanical Failure - Intermittent

Anyone know how easy it is to get the sensor replaced? Car's still under warranty but it means having to take it in to the dealers and with the work rota as it is at the moment, it's near-impossible to take the car into VW during working hours.
