might be a daft question but i have a 57 plate done 22k. would that have the new version or should i get it changed as a precaution???

I very much doubt you will have the D version unless it was changed without your knowledge.

When did the D version come into production? I have a 2006 (06 plate). Bit worried after seeing that!  :surprised:

Also why is the D version better over going with an aftermarket one e.g Forge?

From memory Revision D was introduced mid/late 2009.

I think the OEM DV is electronically controlled and reacts a lot quicker and earlier - in comparison to the Forge one.  Take this with a pinch of salt - I'm no expert.  I am sure someone can elaborate/correct me.

The new revision D is a piston action type, rather than a diaphram, which as can be seen is prone to splitting over time. My GTI is a May 08 car and it did not have the revision D installed.  :happy2:

Hi Guys, just in reply to those of you who have asked about ed30's and laters golfs, i could not tell you what DV you have fitted as im no expert, i just went off the great advice i got from this site, im sure if you dig around or ask the right person you will be sure to find out, best way to find out id say would be to remove your DV valve and find out exactly which one youve got or like me you will always have that doubt in your mind.

and it really is and easy job, trust me.

Apart from trying to get the engine cover off. Still having problems with that, two years later!

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

the engine cover doesnt need to be removed on KO3 or KO4.

The best advise is for everyone with a diaphram (non D version) to change them. its the only way of knowing if its gone, and if it hasnt, then it will be likley to in the future.

Mine went at 18k miles, 2k miles after a remap. on 60k miles now and not had any problems with the D version.

IIRC the piston type was introduced about the same time as the TSI engine(mk6 and rocco) and was then used as the replacement on the TFSI's ?????
