BEWARE YOU DV VALVE COULD LOOK LIKE THIS!!
« on: August 19, 2010, 04:51:01 pm »
Hi All, after reading all the info on this site regarding DV Valves i decided to change mine to the OEM version D, as i own an 05 GTI, and it is recommended that on models this early it be replaced,

I am very pleased i decided to change mine as my car now feels a whole lot better and is alot faster, and would recommend anyone with an early MK5 GTI to replace their DV valve for the latest version,

Reason for my post is that i have uploaded some pics of my DV Valve and it shows just what condition yours could be in too.

Andy

Would you say you noticed the car was 'off' before you changed it?  Did still pull strongly / ie you could feel the turbo kicking in?

Hi there, yes i noticed the car was off so to speak, it was very slugglish, and the turbo seemed to kick in very late, there ws also this hissing sound when putting you foot down, after changing the DV the car is now alot faster, accleration is alot more solid, and the turbo kicks in alot earlier.

the last pic shows the box and part number of the replacement Version D valve

I was actually just going to post the exact symptoms that you have satated! :surprised:
A faint hissing when you accelerate and certainly no grunt.

Is it easy to check the DV valve, where is it and how much is a new one? Mines is also an 05.  :drinking:

Do the edition 30's have the revised DV?

Or is it worth swapping mine?

its located under the driver side wing, u have to remove the wheel and then the wing liner, its directley behind there, 3 x 7mm(i think) allen key bolts hold it in which are a bit fiddeley but with a bit of patience they will come out, when refitting i would recommend you use some thread lock when replacing the allen bolts, cost was £47.00

I haven't noticed sluggishness but like boiling a frog Perhaps the effect is gradual and you don't realise over time....I'm going to look into this too..I get the hissing sound. Sept 05 build my06.

I very much doubt you will have the D version unless it was changed without your knowledge.

When did the D version come into production? I have a 2006 (06 plate). Bit worried after seeing that!  :surprised:

Also why is the D version better over going with an aftermarket one e.g Forge?
