If your GTI is due for a service soon..
« on: August 16, 2010, 10:41:16 am »
May be of interest to members...

Just booked my ED30 for its 40k Service.

Was originally quoted for:

40k Inspection service    £191.66
Air Filter                           £26.84
dust and Pollen Filter        £24.09
DSG Oil and Filter Change £175.48

Total inc VAT                    £418.05

Ienquired about their Service plan and went for that instead:

i get two services and two MOTs (MOTs are normally £30) for £299
I also got the DSG oil and filter down to £150 (it would have been £175 as the car wasnt quite 3 years old but manage to negotiate)
Brake Fluid change £50

All that for £500 - i dont think ive done too badly.

I asked my local dealer about the £299 deal but they're (Peter Cooper Group) not participating in this offer which is a shame.  :sad1:

It's a great deal if you qualify but unfortunately for those of us that are on LongLife servicing, we don't, at least that's what I've been told by two separate dealers...  :sad1:

^^^ There's plenty of threads on here about why you shuldn't be on LL servicing for a performance car like the GTI.

Search for the thread... then get your car switched to T&D...  then sign up for the servicing plan!

Interesting... My Edition 30 is in for its 40k service today and I have been quoted £229 which apparently is a fixed price from VW!

yep, it's the new fixed pricing they do for servicing but if you add the cost of an MOT on top (£30 from vw) , it would be worth your while to go for the service plan for £299 - you get 2 years servicing and 2 MOTs. The "new" price for the DSG service (if you have DSG) is £150 which is cheaper than most places

Yeh, I saw that advertised in the dealer.  I don't need an MOT at the moment though.  Might go for it next time if I decide to keep my car when the first MOT is due.

Granted, however my car is not used as was intended... it's used as a daily driver on a rather boring commute every day and in doing so has racked up 95k miles in 4 years.  Under these circumstances I don't believe that it would fair any better on time and distance than it would on long-life -- the only difference is I'd be a lot worse off. :sad1:

I saw the £30 MOT is that with a service only?

It would appear not as I took my car in this morning for its MOT; I asked how much when I booked it in and when they said £30 I asked them if that was for a specific model or if there were any other terms... they said no, an MOT is an MOT, and no other terms.

I was told the same by my dealer (need to be on T&D not LL service) to take up the £299
My 40k service is due soon - is there any way I can switch to T&D from LL without paying for a service first?
I have vag-com if thats any help?!

Yep VCDS can be used to swap over. All done in the service reset. (top right from memory)

Don't think it will matter too much, but VW will have the car on their system as LL. You can tell them it was changed back to T&D at some point. Interim service maybe.
No Golf anymore.
Enjoyed the last five years of ownership of Mk5 & 6 GTIs.
Plus an excellent forum for knowledge and new ways to deplete the bank account.
Thank You Everyone.
