Diesel Ed30.................
« on: February 02, 2009, 07:47:52 am »
Well over the weekend, I used a full tank of V Power, I drove from Somerset to Wellingborough on Sat, stayed over, the Pod on Sunday, and drove back to Somerset via Brum (a bit of business).

The trip including several laps of the Wellingborough Tesco's car park, serveral sightseeing trips (thanks to Marco Polo Greeners! and his amazing sat Nav!

I took a pic of my Odometer, managed 406.9 miles on the tank, and had 5 miles left in the tank.

The traffic on the way home, with the snow, meant 70 average was just about all you could do, so cruise on, and sit back.

So anyone for a Diesel!

Thats good milage per tank.

My GT 170D is doing that per tank around town with a heavy right foot.
On that kind of journey you did, i would be expecting around the 600 miles to the tank (V-power diesel)
Cars currently running 220bhp/330ft/lbs

Still, your fuel econ is impressive for the power + fuel type  8)
Don't judge me by your ability !

That is good, last long treck I did (other than the Pod) was to London and I was 420 miles out of the tank.  Was hoping for same fuel economy yestrerday but travelling north with the wind against me saw an average of 26mpg - not great - journey back with the wind saw 38mpg ! Full tank up, half a tank back !!

ROFL!

I find it far too difficult to stay off the gas pedal long enough, hence I get about 25mpg round town and 27mpg on the motorway!

I might try and find this out but generally the light comes on at 300miles and that's when I fill up.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

....I'm the same - I just can't be arsed to see what my fuel consumption is other than occasionally checking the 'puter. It's usually about 28 mpg regardless of journey.

Due to poor visibility the other week, I did a journey which was mostly in D-mode (I'm 95% M-mode) and not more than 60mph. 'Puter displayed 32mpg but I was very bored - Not the way to enjoy a GTI imo.

I agree RR, Traffic and the snow meant I had to sit back.  Nice to see what the car can do though.

Certainly :happy2:, but the only trouble I find is that finding out such info causes me to wonder if I'm a bit of a boy-racer because I never get anywhere near such high mpg and yet I don't hammer it everywhere and always drive according to conditions and traffic.

I've been taught to use the gears though - Not just 40 years ago but more recently on a course. I don't feel comfortable just sitting there using low revs and torque.

Great to meet you after many 'conversations' on the forum - It's always good to meet those you get on well with (and actually often beneficial to meet those you don't get on with so well on forum!)
