MFD2 Questions????

Hey troops maybe doing a px for an MFD2.
Just ahd a few questions, before I agreed to do anythin.

1st up, will this just be a simple case of plug and play, providing it comes with the code? or will it need coding to work in my car by a dealer or someone with vagcom.

2nd, I am aware this unit needs the disc for the Satnav to work, I have the 6disc changer in the arm rest, so could I just leave the nav disc in the unit and forget about it.  Also while using the nav could I play music from discs in the changer?

Any help on the above matters is much appreciated. cheers

If memory serves it'll need coding (definitely if you have a Highline display), and yes you can use the nav and playback from the changer at the same time.
'57 DSG GTI alas now gone, but not forgotten....
Now motorway cruising in a 61 Mondeo Titanium X Sport 2.2 TDCi. 500+ miles to a tankful and bucketloads of torque :O Ok, it's not a GTI but it's fun... and that's what counts ;)

Dont have a highline display so thats not an issue, so everything else should just be plug and play?

Nope, it does need coding even without a Highline - CAN gateway needs coding for navigation, and  MFD2 for sound system/no of speakers, phone preparation (if you have it) plus CD changer.

Other than that, it's plug and play  :signLOL: - the radio should work OK without coding........

And you'll need a GPS antenna. Retrofits often put these behind the dashboard, seems to work OK for most people.

What is a highline display anyway??

Guys, as I'm the 'proposer' of aforementioned PX - can anyone help me with this code thing?

Is it the security code? Should it be in the cars manual etc? I have a fair bit of documentation with the car but not sure what I'm looking for!!

There's the security code that the buyer needs to activate the unit in their car - 4 digits, should be on a card, if not then you'll need to pay a visit to the service department of a VW dealer assuming the unit was factory-fitted (they will give you the code, FOC in my experience, if you quote the VIN or reg). You only ever need this code once when moving the unit from vehicle to vehicle.

VCDS (previously know as VAGCOM) coding is the term for the programming required to match the unit to the car and vice versa. Basically this is how you tell the car that the unit is installed and therefore that certain features should be activated or deactivated.

So it will need coding for the nav to work in my car then? Don't have a phone kit. 
Can anyone with VCDS do it or will it be a trip to VW?
Sorry if these are silly questions but not got a clue when it comes to things like this.

Yes, it will need to be coded. Anyone with VCDS can do this, doesn't need to be a dealer. There is a list of forum members with VCDS here. If you can't find someone on here who is local, look for a VAG specialist garage, they will have the cable and know what to do. It's only a few minutes work.

Mine was just plug and play, works fine, I put antenna on dash in the middle close to window screen.

It really should be coded to match the car.  You can 'assume' your unit is plug and play because when you plugged it in it worked but that's not Plug and Play really is it.

Nonwithstanding the audio side, I would also hazard a guess that if the CAN gateway isn't told to enable controller 37 then when the GPS lock is lost (in tunnels or whatever) the nav will lose position as there is no data from the ABS sensors?
