just a note the ABS is not a recall .i only make this point again becaue i had a problem with mine ,it broke at 3 years 4 months and 24000 miles ,so out of warranty.the car had 1 dealer stamp at 13000 and 1 independant stamp at 22000 .vw covered 100% parts 50% labour.

Cool thanks for that I bear it in mind and find out if they will cover this sort of issue.

Update on the service history

Quote from: motorhouse
The vehicle was owned by a finance company first, There is no mention of
who serviced it but it has got the invoices of what was done and how
much it cost them to do. This is the first 3 services given to you, So
they may have sent it to Vw for the first as indicated by yourself to
keep the warranty ongoing.

The fourth service was done by the 2nd owner at a Vw garage which is a
separate invoice at 66,000 miles.

Not sure why VW didn't mention the 66k service, will have to look closely at that receipt.

I can live without the service book at the price it's at.. I'll try contacting the PO to see if she (she is that good or bad) ever had it in her possession if I get it... I'm sure I can get one off ebay if not  :innocent:

Another question.. how does the ED30 obtain it's extra 30 horses over a standard Gti ?

Big thanks to everyone for their input on this.

If it was originally sold by the motorhouse it stands a very good chance of being an import as I remeber seeing them there when I was looking for a gti!

From what I now understand it was owned by a finance company, them Motorhouse who sold it to some lady who then partex it at motorhouse for a 2010 Vauxhall VXR of some description.  VW confirmed it was UK and Motorhouse confirm the V5 states UK.

DVLA has it as no previous keepers, other than the first one.  Ask MH what the name is on the V5 (or ask to see it when you go to look).

Should already have an MOT on it then

After a nice 4 hour round trip it was a tad on the rough side I'll list all the things we spotted later when I'm at my pc but basically lots of snatches and stuff. Massive thanks to Wayne who was a huge help and saved me big time from the rose tints

Deposit back, am pretty gutted as no chance I'll be able to afford a ed30 unless by some miracle another turns up at this price... but I know it was the right decision to walk away.

Hi JP...just got in, glad to hear your home okay...did you get the deposit back?  Hope so.

It was good to meet and help you in your decision..I know you made the right choice in the end,  although I know having been there myself many times you really want it...it's always a hard decision to have to make.  :congrats:

Always happy to help... :happy2:

Choppers...
Cheers,

Wayne

Looking forward to hearing the report .... Internal scratches etc can all dealt with, new door cards etc these are quite cheap to swap out. I reviewed a cw one but you'd have thought it was a ten year old car inside.

Sorry to hear this wasn't 'the one' .

Also be interested to hear what put you off such a potential bargain?  :popcornsoda:

I better get deposit back she said I would but I may need to do report, so I may need the pics you took. I'll Chase it up tomorrow.

Ok list of things that I can remember
Door skin stuck out half inch from wing did have missing screw which may have pulled it back in
Scratches on roof
Big scuffs on bottom of bumper both sides
Scuffed corner of front bumper
Rear bumper cracked with crazing along top edge would guess reversed into post. Movement in bumper
All wheels badly kerbed and lacker coming off
The gloss black pillars on back door Windows chipped and rust spots
Drivers side skirt warped in middle and coming away from sill
Passenger side of car had been sprayed for some reason
Stone chips on front including some bubbling of laquer on bonnet
Under bonnet insulation ripped/holed
Top of oil filler cap missing preventing you from opening it without using pliers or summut
Wayne said engine was quite ticky compared to his
Fag burn hole in center of drivers  seat where yer bum goes
Leather back to thread on drivers bolster and badly worn on passenger bolster
Steering wheel very shiny as bad as my 11 year old passat with 185k on it.
Trim on door panels not good
Roof lining marked
For some reason climate was in Fahrenheit !

Spec was very low other than mfs and highline not even front arm rest or cover on ash tray or cover on cup holders

No service book
Only serviced at vw once at 17k and print out for other services

I didn't take it for a drive so can't comment on that.

Apart from that it was really sweet :)  and the spare wheel / tool kit was immaculate

In short it was very unloved and abused I guess in realty it was possibly sensibly priced rather than a bargain which is what I was hoping for. Wayne made a very good point that for 10.5k I could get a much nicer gti with better spec and lower miles just not a ed30.

For some reason climate was in Fahrenheit !

That's not a major issue, it can be changed from C to F fairly easily.

It does seem like a bit of a dog from what you've described, as several of your points are a bit more than wear & tear.  It seems like the previous owner just saw it as a means to get from A to B and no more.

To put right everything that was wrong about it, you could save your time & money and just spend a bit more on a decent one in the first place.  Always go with your instincts....you seem quite happy that you walked away from it and it's always useful to take a second pair of eyes, especially someone who knows the particular model of car well.
