Doesn't sound right, round town you should be looking at 300 miles to a tank, I just did 450 miles on one tank of motorway driving and that's stage one revo. Very pleased

sounds a tad low tbh but basics first.

95 or 98/99 RON fuel?
general usage over what distance/speed etc (like Steve has asked)
when was the car last serviced?
all tyre pressures ok?
air con on all the time? + do you have any extras that may impact mpg? (e.g. stereo systems)

from their its health checks on the car DV/PCV etc , maybe including VCDS logging to check parameters for things like boost etc are ok

Is the car totallly standard ? has it always had poor mpg?
a quick check is to find a flat road and check the instantaneous consumption figure in 6th @70mph

There is a thread on here somewhere that has a list of members willing to help with vagcom but I can't find it for some reason. SOmebody reading this will know where to find it though. As for sounding like a diesel, welcome to the club mate! Mine is an AXX engine and when I replaced my totally shafted DV it did improve MPG by a bit but only by about 3-7 mpg on my usual drive to work. As a comparison I put £20.00 in and usually get around 140 miles I believe (don't often check) on Vpower with an average MPG of about 30-33 mpg.

Hope you get it sorted bud.
