Headlamp washer jets - what happens when frozen?
« on: February 03, 2009, 09:23:34 am »
Hi,
My Golf has the winter pack and therefore has the headlamp washers that extend outwards and spray.

I noticed with my car being frozen over this morning the arms obviously could not come out.

I therefore wondered can this cause a problem? Or does it sense it can't push out and therefore not keep trying and hopefully not spraying the screenwash inside!?????

Thanks,

One of the things I love about this shaped golf is the headlight washers, fragile little things....always remind me of R2D2

they're only operational when you've got your healights on

i thought it was every third wash?

god knows....whatever it is it makes a mess of the bonnet  but can gain access to deathstar schematics though so not all bad

They work with the headlights on only on the first and every fifth wash.

When I replaced the fuse in mine the other week I tested them from outside the car, stood between the drivers seat and open door and I got a gobful of screenwash

to skip the HL washer - pull the stalk quickly as to not give out any water, the headlights will not go just the wipers, then pull it again to wash the screen - it will then skip the lights as it thinks its been done once already  :happy2:

Cool i will try thanks.

And yes - i've also had a face full of the stuff by opening the door at the same time as pressing just to see if i could see them extend!

I've got the autolights so they are always coming on.

I have the winter pack to, I can't see the HL washers being particularly effective.  :scared:
