Is there something wrong with this GTI?
« on: September 01, 2010, 08:46:30 pm »
Just wondering what the deal is with this golf. Doesn't have the normal monzas or red stripe on grill. Please ignore my ignorance if I'm being a div but still learning about the mk5

Also can you really buy a stamped book from the stealers?

Cheers in advance

 :stupid: stealth gti  :signLOL:

Ok the red line...fine, the wheels? Why change to 2.0L tdi wheels, or are they newer r32 wheels?  I've not got my contacts in and am on my iPhone but the inside looks right....I can see your point. But relax you are in the right place....

Firstly, I don't think that is a genuine GTI, though I could be wrong.

It is possible to take out the red stripe from the grill (I took mine out).  But the wheels are defo suspect - they should be either 17" Monzas (silver painted alloys - silver all over), or 18" Monza IIs (diamond cut outer face, dark anthracite paint in the recesses of the pepper-pot holes and all over the inner faces - and a clear laquer all over).

And yes, you can by stamped books from the stealer, but they wont have the data sticker inside the front cover, and they will prolly state sommat like "replacement" all over.  Ask the seller for the reg number, AND the full VIN, and trot along to your local stealer with both - they can then get a full history check - including weather its an import or not.  If the seller refuses, report the ad on PistonHeads - as there can be dodgy cars sold on PH just like elsewhere.

clearly a TDI or even 1.6 FSI with GTI bodykit and bits.

centre drinks holder - as far as im aware it never came with the non covered version. would people swap out the nice looking sliding covered one to fit the cheapo looking plastic uncovered version?

i dont think so.

big con so my advice is to stay away.

The ed 30 I looked at at the weekend didn't have cup holder cover according to moschops it is an option!

Thanks for the responses, I've sent email asking a few questions.

The interior photo looks like a GTi - my '57 plate GTi has got the same uncovered, cup holder contre console jobbie.  The exterior photos don't look very GTi at all.  To me it looks like the front windows have got a darker tint but looking outside from the photo of the interior, it looks like a normal window to me - is it the same car?  I don't understand why you would try and un-GTi a GTi to make it look more like a GT or a TDi.  Those wheels aren't R32 either, they look too small.  If in doubt, steer clear!

There are instances in the USA forums mkvis I think of similarly complete and utter foolishness....stealth gti...some kind of irony..... Which is errr ironic from a nation that doesn't understand irony....

E.g. Alannis morrisette who thinks it ironic when it rains on your wedding day... No it's unfortunate!  (Ed Byrne) etc...no wait she is Canadian...

If it did have Monza II's hes probably sold them for some quick money, I know people who have traded a decent set of wheels for sh!t ones when they have been skint.

I would stay clear tbh.

Gear selector is wrong, looks like it's off a five-speed. But the instrument clusters are from a GTI or R. Best to get some engine bay shots I think.
