Mate sorry to hear about all the $hit happening to you. Reminds me of when I had a terrible weekend involving a poorly mate, scratched alloys and something else.
It'll get better.
As for skidding, twice today I slid towards another vehicle and who knows how comes I didn't have an accident in both cases. Each time, the car was sliding very slowly. It would have been faster had I got out the c ar and pushed it across the ice/snow.
