RNS510 question
« on: October 13, 2012, 03:28:54 pm »
I'm on the verge of buying the RNS510 and have bought a CANBUS version M, my question is will this be ok and I won't be effected by the battery drain issue?

I have a 2006 gti.

Cheers

It's Revision K and earlier so you're fine with whatever version. I have a 2007 ED30 with Revision L and never had drain issues.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

From what I know battery drain affects up to early 2007 models.

My car is a 56, however my RNS510 has a modified firmware which means I do not need an update canbus.

If you require further info speak to Nick on r32oc.com he is the RNS Guri there !

We also have RNS gurus on here like Eddie-NL. vwnavi.com and my-gti are useful resources.

Any canbus after K should be fine. If you definitely have M (which is odd since I have L in a 2007 - are you sure yours wasn't already upgraded at some point?), then you should have no issues with Canbus drain.

Same here i'm running a modified firmware that Nick loaded for me to prevent battery drain and the need for an updated canbus  :happy2:

I'm using an "incompatible" version F without the issue of battery drain due to having a Polar FIS installed.
Without traction power is nothing!

thanks folks, i bought the CAN version 'M' from another member on here a while a go with the view of upgrading to the rns510 or the rcd510.

I've no idea what version of the CAN is currently in my car!
