I just bough a 16Gb sd card for my RNS 510 and it will not read it. I gather I may need to update the firmware.

Can anyone tell me how to check the version?

Also if the car is only 2 years old will the dealer do it for free?

Thanks,

Alex

Probably not.

If you can get into the secret menu (press and hold setup for several seconds), then it should be able to tell you. Otherwise you'll need someone with access to VCDS (have a look at the register).

I know versions B and C will read SDHC cards, but I'm not sure about version A.

Not heard of any dealers doing the update TBH.

I would bet it's on firmware 900 at most.

You can check by rebooting the unit (press the buttons < + > + i on the top row of the unit), as soon as the VW logo displays press and hold the setup button. This will take you to a diag menu.

After several tries not reading your instructions properly and holding down setup too early I got there.

is the SW number the important one? Mine is on 1000.

If I upgrade it will it improve SD compatibility? And if so what should I be looking to upgrade it to and where would I get the files?

Also I have a bluetooth kit waiting to be installed when I have time. Does the HU's firmware affest that at all?

Thanks :)

Legally, you should obtain the firmware from the dealers.

Obviously, there are illegal methods that this website cannot condone.

So does the dealer charge for a firmware update? Mine didn't have a clue what I was on about when I asked!!

Also, is it actually likely to help with reading large SD cards?

You can upgrade any unit up to 272X firmware. After that for 276X onwards you need a B or C unit

This will give you support for 32gb SDHC cards amongst other things

Firmware update does not affect bluetooth.

I've never heard of a dealer doing it as they don't want to and as you have found out most don't know about it either.

VAG do not supply the Firmware to customers that im aware of, Only mapping :happy2:

How do I tell the verssion of the unit?

I have:
1T0035680A
H04
1000
C-EU_5,540-t710
0xC001

At the top of my list of details, Does one of The C's in there make it a C or is the A on the first line.

Also version Volkswagen RNS 510 Firmware Upgrade to version 2720 / 2722 / 2724 / 2726 / 2728

Says compatibility wise:
Units that can be upgraded include (still being compiled may not be 100%)

    * 1T0 035 680 C (1T0035680 C) from software version 1000, 800,  900, 1100 and 2660 to version 2700.
    * 7L6 035 680 C (7L6035680C) from software version 1002,  1022, 1102 and 2664 to version 2700.
    * 3T0 035 680 A (3T0035680A) to version 2704.
    * 7F0 035 680 (7F0035680) to version 2700.
    * 7E0 035 680 (7E0035680) to version 2700.
    * Further to follow as the firmware is loaded.
    * USA Firmware has yet to be released
    * Revision A units can be upgraded with the modified firmware (see link below) – thanks to Josi (also for the unofficial SWL recovery CD)

Assuming that mine is a version A because of the A on the first line then this should be OK?

Sorry for all these questions I just don't want to brick my stereo!

Thanks,

Alex

You have an A version 1T0 035 680 A

You need a modified version of the firmware for your unit which i linked in this thread. All support was dropped for A units after 268X so it needs to be modified :happy2:

Thanks all, firmware is all updated :)

Maps and music were all retained which is cool.

The problem is I have now lost my 16gb memory card!  :laugh:

It will turn up I hope.
