Idle problem - Now sorted :D
« on: September 05, 2010, 08:19:48 pm »
Evening guys,

Today i took a long trip down to the Edition 38 show. When i parked up back at home i noticed the idle was fluctuating between about 1050 and 1200.

It has never done this before, although it was given a good thrashing today.

I've been out for a slow drive to try and reset the logic but it still idles funny.

I'm currently uploading a video. Any ideas? PLeaseeeeee help  :happy2:

Have you unplugged your MAF and then gone for a short drive to see if it idles/runs better?

Hi

Just been for a run. I uplugged the MAF and it started gasping and fluctuating alot so plugged it back in.

It has no fault codes ( had a basic code reader)

However it does sound like there is a mini darth vader making a noise (almost like wheels screeching in the distance) when the boost comes on. - Split DV?

Sounds like a split diaphram of sorts, either maybe Dv or Pcv diaphragm gone.

Any sound of air leaks when you shut the engine off under the top engine cover?

Sorry to hear that, dude. :sad1:

Erratic idling, exactly like you describe, was what my car was doing before I had to have the PCV changed.

Thanks everyone. I knew you'd come to the rescue.

How much is a split PVC valve to replace? Is it warrenty covered?

Yes, just put car to stock (if mapped), pcv is around £35 to replace for the part.

Sounds like a split DV to be honest guys. Never really noticed but its hesitating on boost.

Popping to statllers in sheffield tomorrow to have a new DV and have a look at the PCV.

Then on wednesday it's in for the cambelt tensioner. *squeek squeek squeek*

Thanks for all the replies.

I'll let you know how i get on  :happy2:

UPDATE:

Problem solved.  :happy2: :happy2:

Great thanks to Statllers of Sheffield. Turned out to be a dodgy PCV valve that caused the idling problem and perhaps poor-ish-er (  ) running.

Also had the Revision D Divertor Valve fitted and it seems to pull muchhhhh harder. Even though my original was in perfect condition.

Ahh well.

Nice to hear the problem got sorted out.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
