How much damage could a bit of water do...
« on: September 06, 2010, 04:24:46 pm »
This ED30 on ebay looks pretty sweet but looks like it's been for a swim :(

CAT B seems a bit harsh not that I really understand the CAT stuff.. does it affect your insurance ?

Would you guys suggest staying well away ?

cheers

Electrics and water dont mix, my mate has a new Range Rover in his workshop which has had flood damage, its had thousands spent on it already and its still buggered. I think it now needs a new gearbox at a cost of £5k :surprised: My advice is to steer clear....also CAT B!!! I didnt think CAT B's were allowed back on the road!???

I would imagine he has the categorisation code wrong as VOSA would not have needed to inspect it if it were a B as it would have been stripped/crushed!

If it was a C and he has the certificate from VOSA then fill your boots as long as all the electrics work!  :scared:

Wow this place is impressive.. how many replies in short space of time..

Another thing that sounds odd would the dealer really replace the DSG under warranty if it had been flood damaged ?

Almost seems you could get it and if there are any issues as a result of the flood just pop it back to the dealers and get it fixed under warranty !

Run an HPI check if you're serious. That will show up any issues such as stolen/recovered, outstanding finance etc. But I'd want the V.I.N, and reg, and sight of the V5C. Remember that the V5C will be changing soon, as so many were stolen & used to shift cloned cars.

Once you have reg & V.I.N I'd ring a vw dealer, they would be able to tell you any warranty work authorised & carried out by VW UK. I'm sure they will also explain that a car on the written off register sure as hell won't be covered by a VW warranty, whether it's Cat B or D. You can also establish history by phoning the previous recorded keeper on the V5C (if there is one). In my experience, most are happy to give you 5 minutes of their time to tell you about their old motor.

If it's priced like that for an 08, there's a problem. I wouldn't p**s on it if it was on fire. Fleabay hides a multitude of bottom feeding low lifes. This guy may not be one, but it doesn't look or feel right.

As these boys say, Cat B is not for repair. This is

Ad says it's a standard car yet it's got Brembo brakes.  Is it me or does it look like it's been lowered?
