Accelerate Services - SEAT Cupra Detailed
« on: September 10, 2010, 10:12:38 am »
Good Morning Everyone

Last week I had the pleasure of giving Greg’s lovely SEAT a Full Detail. He booked the car in early on Thursday morning and I kept the car at my premises for the two days it was being detailed.

Once I had the car I set to work. I have taken a lot of pictures but unfortunately I do not have any of the correction stage as I was not only rather rushed for time but also feeling very ill (Heat and a combination of stress) so wanted to get done with the correction. I also didn’t have a huge amount of space to work.

Alrighty.

The SEAT on arrival was in a bit of a mess. It was covered in dust which I later found was all over the interior too. I started off with taking some pictures.

I then continued to spraying a heavy dose of Shield Blade Cleaner to the rims. I agitated the dust slightly and allowed it to settle for a bit before spraying down the my Black and Decker after making a trip to Makro as I appear to have misplaced my Karcher… Im still kicking myself.

The car was then given a very very good clean by hand followed by being soaked by machine and then by hand again.

I then sprayed the car down and got to work with the clay. I found the paint on this car was in very very poor condition. Greg works in an Industrial area and the fallout from the environment had done a lot of harm to the paint. Not only was the paint extremely rough to touch it was also marred with surface rust and swirls. The swirling was bad but far from the worst I have worked on.

Here is what my clay looked like after doing a quarter of the bonnet alone:

This is where my write up lacks detail… I took some pictures of the paint damage and most of it didn’t come out. These did.

I would say the entire body, the roof and bonnet being worse were covered in these swirls and holograms. Using Chemical Boys Pro Polish I did more or less 4 to 5 passed per panel receiving very good correction. Unfortunately some of the damage (deep scratches) could not be removed as it was through to the primer.

So you remember the dull paint? This is after polishing. No Wax or sealants at this point.

At this point I was tired of the body and wanted to move on to the engine bay before giving the car a final wash and then wax. Before:

After:

I then started on the interior giving it a thorough wipe down followed by removing the carpets and giving them a wet vac clean. The fabric on the seats was also giving a good dose of wetvac treatment. Although a soft touch dashboard I applied leather moisturizer to create a lovely rich new car smell as well as to provide a lovely sheen.

I forgot to take pictures of the interior afterwards. *Bangs head against wall*

So with the interior, body and engine bay done it was time to move onto the finer details. The exhaust was given a good seeing with some Megs Metal Polish and sealed with Opti Seal for extended gloss and easy cleaning. The body was given two coats of Collonite Wax topped off with some quick detailer providing wonderful metallic pop yet also retaining the lovely reflections of dark paint.

All plastics were treated with Meguires trim detailer and the tyres got a dose of Megs Edurance Tyre Gel which I must say is a fantastic product. The Engine bay, window seals and interior plastics were all treated too.

Two days later and a lot of work we have the finished product.

The after pictures:

I think she looks fantastic.

Thank you Greg for booking your SEAT in with me. I absolutely loved working on it. Your patience and understanding throughout the detail is appreciated and I hope you are happy with the work done.

Love some of the shots mate. Also love the colour in this shot (wish the swirls weren't there):

You can still see it here:

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
