Oil Light On
« on: September 09, 2010, 11:40:59 am »
Hi All,

Just a quick bit of help as I'm at work at the moment,

My Oil light came on this morning as I was driving to work?  :scared:

I have a 2005 GTI what oil do I need to buy to top up & where is best to go?

I'll get out in my Lunch break to sort it

Thanks

And dont drive it without checking that you have any left......mine came on after a particularly hard weeks (yip - 1 week) driving and when I checked dip  - the cupboard was bare. So be careful!

When I checked it was JUST above the Min ! :ashamed: :ashamed:

I have put 3/4 of a litre in of 5w/30 Castrol Magnatec (it's all I could get from the Garage near where I work £16.99 for 2 Litres)  and it's now bang on the full mark.

I will religiously check from now on :notworthy:

Thanks  :happy2:

Thats how mine seems to go as well.  You'll check it and for weeks it doesn't really budge then from nowhere the oil level light is on.  Mine seems to go off when its about half way between min and max so could be worse.

Wonder what it does with the oil in the greedy phase?!

Well, my greedy spell often coincides with a week or two of big motorway miles 500-100, usually at night in 'swift and controlled' manner!

The week after that, I'll be tootling to the shop and the light comes on. So either it's the tootling or the 1000 miles giving it the beans.

You shouldn't let the oil run so low as to cause the warning light come on. Ideally you should be doing a weekly check. I also check and top-up before a long journey.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
