S-Line version is the one to go for imo.

Over the sport you get

15mm lower suspension
S-Line bumpers
S-line seats which if memory serves me correct is leather bolsters with the speed cloth centre depending on year i think its pre 2006 the centre was silver.
Brushed aluminium trim
18 5 spoke S-Line alloys
Black headlining

The option for S-Line only colours which were Avus silver and Misano red

And thats all i can remember

I've heard that the ride on the sport model can be too hard as the rest of the setup is not so sporty in terms of feedback, handling etc.. So it's not a sporty drive, just bone-jarringly harsh..

It's on my list of possibles though, along with a mk5 gti, ed30, volvo t5, 130i, r32 - the list goes on!

My opinion is they are good cars but its just not an R32!!! But then again they can be found for alot cheaper than an R32.

True that.

Test drove and nearly bought one before my GTI. Loved how it drove, sounded beautiful and is basically an R32 in sheeps clothing with Audi touches etc... Perhaps slightly different components brake/suspension wise? This one was a 55 plate with about 40k on the clock.

The one I drove went fine, felt a bit heavier than the GTI and just on the test drive I noticed the fuel needle had dropped about a quarter of an inch. This I guess though is to be expected  :wink:

If I ever get the opportunity though for a v6, it would be a Mk4 R32 or one of these A3's in all honesty.

That IMO is 100% accurate no matter what setup you go for in the A3 Sport/S-line the ride in the Audi just isn't as well set up as the Golf.

I've also driven 2 x 140 TDI Sport's (FWD) on 05 and 06 plates respectively, and the ride is not bone jarring whatsoever, in fact its soft and comfortable. Both had the OEM 5 spoke 17 inch wheels on 225/45/17s. If anything, the ride was a bit spongey' and soft when pushed round roundabouts enthusiastically. I wouldn't say its firm or hard. More Rolls Royce than... erm... GTI :laugh: Potholes weren't felt, the start of understeer was though. That's how I'd describe it imo.

Perhaps the 3.2 quattro drive train + suspension setup is completely different?

agreed but having done 60k in a sport and 60k in a s-line, the sport's ride was far better and kept its wheels in contact with the ground, so pleased to get shot of the s-line (not a patch on a mk5 GTI), v6s are unloved so some absolute bargains out there

My impression of the s-line suspension was that it was too stiff. Almost like the designers had put super stiff springs, and stiffer dampers, and then not bothered fine tuning the setup. For example it was fine on a nice smooth A road or a motorway, but too stiff on crappy B roads or urban roads.

The sport ironically comes with standard suspension, but this setup is a much better setup in my opinion.
