Best products for Tornado Red?
« on: September 07, 2010, 03:57:04 pm »
Hi all ,
What do all you detailers reccomend to use on Tornado Red paint then? At the moment Im using Megs NXT Shampoo , AG SRP for polish , AG EGP as a sealant , and Megs Gold Class as a wax - with AG Vinyl and Rubber care taking care pf plastic trim/dashboards , and Megs Extreme Tyre Gel for my round black circles! (all of this is a little extreme for my current Fabia Comfort I guess!) Are there any products that would do a better job than these on my GTI , when the time comes to replenish my stocks?

Cheers.

Have a look through some of the detailing threads. People will have mentioned what products they use. I think the only product I still use from your list is Megs Endurance Tyre Gel.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Werkstat Carnauba all the way.  Easy to use, moderate cost (£55 for a 'kit'), amazing results.

Some people go for Raceglaze 55, but I don't have personal experience of this.  I guess it would be quicker to apply than the Werkstat system?

I bought the Lusso kit from Autoperfection (http://www.autoperfection.com/shop/Lusso-Wax-Finishing-Plus-Kit-Creme-Oro-and-Accessories.html) along with a clay bar and lube. I would highly recommend the products as they brought my Tornado red out a treat (see pic). My only gripe was the durability of the Lusso wax so for winter I have invested in possibly the most mentioned wax off all time  , Collinite.

.
Check out Saint Steve's red Ed30 - Always immaculate. I'm the last person to ask - I don't think I cleaned the car once in August.

Between washes (Megs NXT) I just use Megs Speed Detailer to remove any bird poo etc but do so every time before I put her away in the garage.

Dont dissmis the stuff you currently have.
AG srp is really good when used correctly as is EGP but i would personally replace the EGP with a decent wax such as Megs #16 or Collinite 476. Dont get caught up in the world of expensive wonder waxes until you have mastered the basics :happy2:

I usually use my Megs Gold Class wax after the EGP stage , Ive been using just standard stuff bought from Halfords for years and years , but this is my first 'decent' car in over 8 years and I want to make it look as good as I can.

In that case my advice would be to probably

Stick with the SRP as it is actually really good stuff when used correctly but Clay the car before you polish. You will be surprised at the difference this alone does.

Get yourself a good wax like I said earlier Megs #16 or Collinite these are very good waxes and should not be overlooked plus they are very durable which is a bonus especially over the coming winter.

Or if you would like I can give you a list of other detailing gear which will cost you a fair few quid and it will give you the same results!!!!!!!!!

Cheers for that , what number of Collinite wax would be the best for the red, IIRC theres more than one type of that as well?

According to Detailing world site they recommend the #915 for solid colours, like the tornado red.  :happy2:

As prev mentioned your preparation is the key to a good final result. If your happy with SRP then keep using it, another pre wax cleanser I like is DJ lime prime. Waxes take your pick, spoke to guy today and he had been using raceglaze on both a red and black cars he owned. Collinite and megs#16 are both excellent value to with the added durability of collinites 476s for winter times.

I have a tornado red and use SRP followed by collinite 476 and the results are absolutely fantastic.  I'm sure there is better / more expensve out there but you won't fail to be impressed with it.

I think the collinite works really well with red - it didn't seem to make such an outstanding difference with my wife's old metallic silver 106 or her metallic blue polo.  It made them shiny alright but didn't make the colour pop out like what it does with my car.

I only clay once a year, polish twice maybe 3 times and wax about once every 6 weeks though with the collinite you don't have to do it even that frequently.
