Forget a respray!!
« on: September 12, 2010, 01:23:25 am »
3M vinyl tape is the way to go apparently! A cheap alternative to a respray.

The video shows a German girl (pretty hot too) turning her Porsche into military style!

And this link shows the owner of a black 335D and getting it 3M vinyled in white!! Mad!

I have had a car vinyl wrapped, although it was less than half the cost of a pro respray and a fantastic job I wouldn't get one again, surface finish just isn't anywhere near as glossy and a cold winter caused a few edges to start peeling.

Plus insects left on the film can etch on the surface and leave it looking pants.

Could I be cheeky and ask how much it cost you?

also would the peeling not be coveed by the warranty?

Clyde wraps quoted me 1200 iirc to get a camo wrap done to mine , pretty sure you get a 2 year warranty with a full car wrap too :happy2:

Wrapped my roof a few weeks back. Haven't got around to doing the spoiler yet but here are some pictures anyway. It took a while as i removed the interior plastics from the boot and c pillars as well as the roof lining and aerial.  :fall:

I want to see pics of that car in a year's time to see what daily driving does to it.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

My mates got his bonnet carbon wrapped and it's lasted well for being a daily altho the wrap lifts at the two seams in the centre of the bonnet, don't know if this is due to heat tho

It was £700ish for a complete gloss white wrap on a 9n VW Polo. I am sure they would have sorted the peeling under warranty but I sorted it myself with a hot air gun. The attention to detail while they did the work was excellent and couldn't fault the job but I am nit convinced by the longevity aspect.

surely you can only go down the vinly wrap route as a tempory measure.  Maybe a few years.  then when you get bored remove it.  It would be very easy to remove, and should leave your paint preserved very well???

There was a blue Mk5 R32 for sale not long ago the prev owner CW wrapped it during the sale the new owner removed the wrap all was ok but it took the paint of part of the door, not sure if the wrap was removed diy or by prof's.
