Spare Wheel Options - can you get a space saver on an ED 30?
« on: September 13, 2010, 11:04:49 am »
Hi guys, when I bought my ED 30 last week all I got was some of that liquid foam stuff to pump into the tyre in the event of a puncture. This may work well, but is going to be of little use if I have a blow out or tyre comes off rim.

Is it the case that because of the 18" wheel you cant get a space saver for the Ed 30 so your options are get a"proper" spare 18" alloy or make sure you have roadside assistance in the event your gel/foam aint up to the job?

Did not even get a wheel brace so at mo I have no way of getting the wheel off if i need too, any idea best place to get one apart from VW themselves of course?

Many thanks.

you should have a space saver in the boot underneath the boot liner...... it shud also have a kit attatched 2 the space saver wich holds..... a jack crewdriver locking wheel nut key, cover puller, towing eye and some over bits  :happy2

Hmm, this sounds like an import that didn't come with UK spec.

Where was the PDI done?

yes it is an import. Sorry, what does the abbreviation pdi mean? Delivery inspection?

Under the liner in the boot i have the foam cut out which has the liquid foam and towing eye, lockable wheel nut etc but i have no wheel brace and no spare wheel so want to sort it out as a priority as am sure sods law will dictate that i get a puncture if i dont.

a pdi is a pre delivery inspection.  all cars have one before they are sold.  all UK spec e30's came with a space saver spare wheel, basic tool kit and jack.  the specification for UK cars is generally higher than most places.  it does mean however that you could buy yourself a spacesaver and put it in the little well under hte boot carpet.

ok cheers, will have to see if can get one from scrapyard as mine has no jack either! The spec is prob higher on UK cars due to our crumbling road surfaces getting ever worse
