Side skirts?
« on: May 03, 2009, 08:28:48 am »
Does anybody know if there is a difference between side skirts for 3 and 5 door golfs?

I have been offered a set from a 5 door, but my GTI is a 3 door, to the untrained eye they look the same but are there any differences when it comes to fitting them?

Thanks,
Cooper

Looking on ETKA 2 doors have a different part number to 4 doors, although its one is 1k3 853 859 D (2 door left ) and 1k4 853 859 D (4 Door Left)

....

IIRC, I sold my 5-dr black plastic GTI skirts to a Satan's Fueller 3-dr who wanted to mod to a GTI body.

The 3 and 5-dr GTI's have the same wheelbase and chassis so will surely fit both.

A difference in part number may simply be for Wolfsburg stock taking regarding production lines. Exactly the same part physically across various VAG cars may have different ETKA #'s AFAIK.

I always thought the 5dr was longer than the 3dr.

Strange

That's a styling thing, the doors of the mk5 make it look longer where as the short stubby back windows (as opposed to the hatch window) make the 3 door look more blobby and shorter.

....And then when a 5-dr is lowered and has a strip or lettering down the side, look how long it looks now : -

Hi Cooper,
I see you have some R32 skirts for sale.  If they are still available Id been extremely interested in buying them.  I'm contacting you by replying to this post as I don't own a Golf, I'm actually a member of the Briskoda forum and want them for my Octavia vRS.

Thanks.
