BSH pcv blanking plate?
« on: September 13, 2010, 09:16:43 pm »
Hi chaps,

I've been offered a BSH blanking plate much cheaper than advertised there.  http://www.bshspeedshop.com/store/bsh-bulletproof-pcv-revamp.html

Does anyone have any experience with them? Would probably make me feel better about the PCV problems I've had of late. But if they are a waste of time/money i won't bother.

Thanks in advance  :happy2:

Nick  :pomppomp:

Good for curing and issues with the PCV. It doesn't separate out oil like the BSH catch can, but is a fix and forget mod.

I have one for sale

Hello Hurdy,  :pomppomp:

Would you say its easy/quick enough to fit?

I was at Statllers the other day, having a rather long conversation about you haha.

I fitted one of these to my edition 30 and i wish i never bothered.

It's a good cure to the pvc problem, but on mine it has coursed it to missfire and burn oil, due to the extra strain on oil seal's at the bottom of the piston rings failing.
And even with the standard pcv fitted i still have the missfire and blue smoke but not as bad.

Are you sure this is due to the PCV fix? I've never had an issue with mine.

Yes im 100% sure it is because of the pcv fix. The day i fitted the fix it started spluttering slightly and gradually got worse, so then i refitted the standard pcv and it was ok for a while, then a day or two latter every time i used over half throttle it would misfire really badly and backfire.
So i bought a new pcv which improved it a lot, which is pretty much how the car runs now.

I have only heard of one other case where this has happened, it must have been due to the rings been weak to start with then the pcv fix finished them off.

Has anyone got any ideas of the cost to sort this?

^^^ The point to note here is that the BSH PCV fix routes the PCV blowby in the same way that the OEM PCV does while the car is under boost.  Therefore while under boost the OEM pcv will be putting the same amount of pressure on the rings/seals as the BSH does.  So I would say your problem is going to be with your rings/seals and not the BSH pcv fix.
