Garth, what was the sympton of the broken spring? clunking over slow bumps? occasional feeling of loss of dampening?
I ask as something has been worrying me on near side front, but havent had chance to get it checked out, I have had an MOT in this time would a normal MOT be likely to pick up on this sort of issue?
Only symptoms were creaking when turning the steering wheel (thought it was a noisy steering rack... which still might be true as well) and a light clunking when going over bumps.
They're not massive noises and I thought they were just normal wear and tear given the number of reports of noisy steering racks and clunking subframes I've seen on the net.
Had my GTI a year now and can safely say it's the most unreliable car I have ever owned.
