I ended up making my own ITG type which is basically a copy of the Backdraft kit here :

http://www.backdraftmotorsport.com/shop-vag-2.0tfsi/bdm-2.0-tfsi-induction-kit/flypage.tpl.html

Cost to me was about £210 for Pipercross filter, Forge elbow off turbo , SFS elbows / reducer and some hose clips. The connector tubes and mountings I made along with the maf housing so they were free to me.
Its off the car at the moment to clean the filter so I put the standard cover / filter back on . OMG ! Can't believe how "choked" it feels now .  Definitely a huge difference on a mapped car .

a pipe is much a pipe, less bends the better but, it's the filter which really matters, and one it seems has no answer... well not one that i have found

A good alternative would be the ITG with a box like this one so it channels the air from the standard inlet and behind the headlight.

Think i prefer the look of that above enclosed filter, makes the engine bay look OEM with the std cover in place.

Is the K&N filter a no go? or better to go foam like piper x?

Except it costs £700 incl postage, all from Japan.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

....And also except that air still has to travel through the convoluted oem engine cover box.

Why get hung up on looking oem, especially if you compromise increased performance. Surely you either want effective performance mods or you don't want to mod.

You could always build your own contraption .   :surprised:

I made a custom Twin set-up and i make 308 bhp and 307tq (280 bhp at the wheels) on my K03 along with my other mods, up from 280 bhp and 289 tq with Dbilas.

Twin-intakes definetly work.

Mine's is a mix of Forge and Dbilas.

...."Contraption" is the right word!

It looks as if the intake branch from below has no filtration.

Doesn't it have a filter on the end behind the left fog grill ?

....What, where any standing water is going to ingress? Not a great idea if so.

And what 'performance' benefit are you going to get by smoothing out the short intake pipe that is OEM? surely for noticeable gains the whole boost system in general would need smoothing out with miniumum restriction. The main concern would be the flow of air to start with, which the concealed filter box seems to offer (similar to a twintake)? Ill put my flame suit on now  :fighting:

Isn't that where Forge put their intake on the first kit ? Its in one of the pictures on page 1.  Yeah, agree . Not a good place. Cleaning the filter every week !

...."First kit"? Do you mean a kit Forge produced some time ago? Dunno if it's still offered. Ok for a race car but not everyday road car, no matter how fast. It's just totally impractical and unrealistic - The last couple of years have had some particularly heavy and protracted rainfalls.
