Happy to be here!
« on: September 23, 2010, 05:55:32 pm »
Hey fellow peeps its nice to be able to be part of this forum.

I have had the Mk2 GTi, Mk3 VR6, Mk4 GT TDi and now I have been promoted to Mk5 GTi '06 with all the trimmings, leather seats, winter pack, 18' Monza wheels, DSG, flappy paddle gearbox, 50K on the clock blah blah blah im sure you have heard it all many times before.

This has to be the best car I have ever driven and I was not expecting so much since my last two cars were an Audi S3 and an Audi TT convertible.

I have only owned her a couple of days and I am scared of binning her as she is very sensitive (plus i live in the twisty est country roads) and the rain has just started to get really bad hear in the South of England.

Im getting her checked out this weekend by an Audi senior mechanic but I am not expecting any surprises. I am however a little worried about the DSG gearbox and how much that might cost me in years to come. Does anyone have any advice or know there lifespan?

Cheers, nice to be here!

Hi and welcome.

Remember, we want pics!

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Pic looks good though I might've considered colourising the car so it has red reflections to match the rest of the background.

Welcome chap!  :drinking:

Surprised you find the car twitchy as they are very well planted cars!  :happy2:

I'd have gone for something like this:

Not using good terminology.

The roads near me are very cambered and dodgy and not being used to the power applied when i plant my foot down she skips about a bit but all in a controlled manor. I guess I am just going to have to get used to the accelerator but you are right, she is the most planted & poised car I have driven and I am totally surprised to be honest.

On the DSG question as I understand are much stronger than the manual clutches. Some have had problems with the mechatronics unit so thats the only thing I could think of.

Neither. Just had too much time on my hands yesterday!

Nice to see you here mate.
Am sure once you are used to the car a bit more then you will start to love the twisty roads. I go over to the Inlaws who live over in Wales every now and then, the twisty roads are the best ones to really accelerate into and enjoy the car, no boring motorway miles for me!
