Wheel Spacers?
« on: September 24, 2010, 03:18:09 pm »
Is there a point apart from using them to get in bigger brakes and maybe looks?
Do they help with handling?....

I cant see one. Yes you would get a slightly wider track, but nothing that you could notice in the real world.  :happy2:

Depends on the car and the width of spacer really. Wider track on the front will slow turn in somewhat and wider track on the rear sharpens turn in. So naturally understeer and oversteer will also be amplified.
Widen both tracks and it shouldn't change the actual handling balance but it will make a difference to the centre of gravity of the car.
And your missus will be able to kerb your alloys more easily (sore subject in my house this week!).

Your average punter fits them for looks. All you read on forums at the moment is stance this and stance that and this stance is usually achieved with the help of spacers on the average youth's car.

Standard ET51 wheels on a mk5 (or mk6) GTI do look better with 10mm spacers on the back.

Don't forget to tell your insurance company!

10mm all round should be okay as an ET 45 8x18 fits fine and do the maths this placed the wheel centre 6mm further out, add 1/2 of the 1/2" and the outer lip will be 6mm+12/2mm= 12mm further out than stock.

Definately hub centric.

I ran my E92 M3 with 10mm H&R hub centric from new  :happy2: Looked superb, filled the arches and made the arches more obvious.
