I live in the 3rd highest car crime city in the UK and my insurance was £540 for an Edition 30 with just about everything bolted to it including nitrous, quaife etc etc. I'm 45 with full NCB, no points, 10k miles a year, garaged, protected no claims and with Adrain Flux.
Golf R gone.

I'm currently on £210 for a standard GTI (protected no-claims and business use) with Aviva (they don't insure modified cars). Tony at Greenlight said I would be looking into the £400's if I wanted insured with a Bluefin stage 1 map. Even though I've actually bought a second hand Bluefin I don't have it installed as I don't fancy paying the uplift this year. Didn't check the insurances prices prior to buying it as I was only expecting a £30-£50 uplift (based on my previous experiences with a Subaru).

That's good advice :stupid:

The OP might be careful but some other mong on the road might not. Which could potentially leave with him with a huge bill if the worst was to happen.

@ OP I'm with Adrian flux with a highly modified vRS and I pay £430 a year fully comp, clean licence and I'm 32.

Speaking as someone who manages the investigations into serious / fatal accidents I would say that is not a good idea !

Have a big one (your fault or not) and it will end in tears .... I have recently had a car examined with a view to seeing if it had been modified (it hadn't) but we were looking at the ECU and / or for a tuning box.

I am aware of three or four ECU's dealt with by us where they were found to be remapped and the drivers ended up well and truly in the poo ....

Is it really worth the potential grief for only another £50 or £100 a year ??

FWIW Greenlight for me on my Ed30 were no dearer remapped than Admiral were as standard .... at £495 (London; full NCB, no collisions, points, etc).  The funny thing was they won't cover me at all for a remapped BMW 320d !!

How would an insurance company know if it had been mapped, i thought it was ni on impossible to tell.
