Falling to bits........ MOT flagged up a split drop link on the passenger side top. Decided to do them both as I presumed the other one would not be far behind, and on inspection is was perishing. 142,000 miles thought... to be expected.

Had to use the 8mm trip.sqr on the driver side to hole the bolt.

I used TRW items. I would have preferred Lomforder but these were 18quid each and could get them now.

Cam belt gets done next month as its a year over due..... ooops

Hi Rich, what calipers do you run with those discs?

Hey Andy. Do you mean the arb bolts? Yeah they can be stiff. Typically the first one was easy and the second side was stuck. Always how it goes.

Let's hope they are ok. Current ones are dead and my car has been sat for 2 weeks.

It's not a straightforward swap as I need to remove the super pro ball joints to slow these discs to fit as they are slightly different spec to my current ones.

Making a start hopefully this afternoon.

Do they rub on the ball joint?  I had that fun and games with an AP Racing kit eons ago.  Had to grind the BJs down.  Wasn't overly keen on doing that but it didn't cause any issues over 60K miles.

I'm sure they'll work out fine and be insanely powerful

Yeah that’s right. They have already been ground a little for the old discs but these have a wider pad depth, 61 vs 55. I He. A feeling this job is gonna be a pain in the ass but fingers crossed.

Get the grinder out  :happy2:  I shaved about 8mm off my BJs at certain points in the steering arc.  Gave me the fear every time I gave the car death in the corners, but they never let go

If not, back to standard or Passat BJs (taller pins for better roll center) for you, and just get your camber some other way.

Well that's one side done, took me 5 hours.

Spaceer was on solid so had to use some percussive maintainance on it.  Had to drill the disc retaining screw out. Caliper bolts were very very hard to get out and the heads are a bit f*cked so new ones on order one of the disc bolts was seized.

Ball joint was actually quite easy, just had to use a jack to push the tapers together so I could tighten the top bolt.

Otherside to tackle tomorrow.  I bet it's all seized up

Disc is kind of on the wrong side, but the internal vanes are straight so it doesn't matter. I will probably swap them over once I have done the other side.

Old pads were totally f*cked. Down to the backing plate on the inside pad. Disc was on 28.5mm so way past the 30.5mm minimum thickness.

They've seen some action  :surprised:

You won't notice the groove direction under normal road use but if you're OCD, swap em over.  VAG don't 'hand' their Clubsport S discs.  Same part for both sides, so is 'technically' wrong on one side

Haha. That's true. Although they were nearly 400quid so who can blame me, right?
