Doors unlock when the ignition is turned on - help!!
« on: September 26, 2010, 05:56:25 pm »
Hi Folks,

Ive just recently discovered a niggling problem with the ED30 and was wondering if anyone can shed any light..

Basically, i get in the car, close the door and lock the doors with the central locking button, so far so good. I insert the key into the ignition and when i turn the key to turn on the engine, the doors all unlock! I either have press the central locking button again or wait until the auto lock feature kicks in when i go over 10mph.

I currently have activated (via the highline computer): unlock all doors (when key fob is pressed), auto unlock when key is removed from ignition, auto lock when car travels above 10mph.

Am i doing something wrong or missed something that's really obvious??

Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks

Rich

I think the problem is because you are locking it first when getting in, dont forget you are then asking it to lock again at 10mph. Why have you activated that function if you are locking it manually yourself after getting in. Might be worth not locking it when getting in and seeing if if all works ok. If you want it locked straight away then deactivate the locking at 10mph and see if that makes a difference, just a guess mind

i can only echo the above and think you locking before turning the ignition on is confusing the car in some way.  i will try this on my car though and report back what happens  :happy2:

I have the same thing.

Before I had autolocking activated by VCDS, I used to lock the doors manually after getting in but before starting ignition.

After activating autolocking, if I get in and drive off, doors will lock automatically, and unlock when key is removed from ignition. If I now lock the doors manually (which I still occasionally do after four years of doing it!), they unlock when ignition comes on and relock on driving off.

No a problem. Just a "feature". As above, disable it if you always lock your own doors manually.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I have autolock activated and can manually lock my door before starting ignition and the doors remain locked.... Odd I dont have the highline so coded mine manually through VCDS.  Could it be the ignition module playing up and deciding you have removed the key rather than inserting???  Might be worth checking if the behaviour changes based on inserting the key before locking the doors.

The main reason i was asking is that the warranty on the car runs out in 5 weeks, if this is a symptom of a bigger problem, i'd want VW to foot the bill.
Its also strange as it doesnt do this on my MK4 Golf

cheers

But do you have anti-hijack activated?

Double checked mine again last night, got in the car locked the doors with the internal button, started the car up and doors remained locked, they stayed locked when I went over the anti hijacking threshold.  One thing this does do is the locks dont auto unlock on removal of the key, so it seems the entire anti hi-jack auto unlock procedure is over ruled by the manual locking of the doors.

Config im using is unlock driver door on single push (so double press for all doors) anti-hijack lock and auto unlock on key from ignition.

Car is 05 reg mid line and settings were configured through VCDS not conveinience menu.

Cant remember which of the modules codes it but I have the following:

Ok it's remotely possible the problem could be in your switches.
I had strange problems like that ended up replacing the button panel on the drivers door.
All problems appear to be gone. However I'm pretty sure the mk5 is a little different.
Eitherway decode to standard or code to unlock all doors and then auto lock.
If it works correctly than it could be a coding issue.
Otherwise there can be a problem. Then get it sorted under warranty.

I wonder...................

Anyone knows what happens if passenger's or driver's door "refuse" to open?

How you change the (broken) lock since you have no access fron inside?

I have something in mind but I don't want to believe it... :scared:
