open fog light grills  :rolleye: dont tell TT  :signLOL: but i had these on my golf and soon after putting these on the car it started getting clutch slip  , i never thought about it but after looking at them its the duct on one side that flows the air to the gearbox to keep the dsg cars from burning up in hot places, so infact what it is doing is flowing cold air to the gearbox ie the clutch on manual cars and not allowing it to get hot and clamp to the flywheel so causing the slip. I changed them back to normal ones and it stopped slipping  :ashamed: for about 3 weeks but started again a couple of weeks ago and did it bad today in 5th and 6th

its a thought and it did stop after i changed them back

It seems to me that every recent topic is a cause for clutch slipping, from low windscreen wash to now open fog grilles!

All seems a bit daft to me! Either learn how to drive the car without slipping the clutch or sell it and buy a dsg

I think your right to a certain extent, a few people on here are a bit nervous about getting this problem, and this causes people to look hard for a explanation. But it is a expensive fix, so its a little harsh James to tell people to learn to drive when know one really knows the reasons as to why, as of yet.  :chicken:

No being funny james but running around 340lbft of torque through a clutch that is designed to cope with 230lbft is asking a little too much, no matter how the car is driven. Unless you drive the car at 5k+rpm all the time the clutch will go sooner or later.
Me and matt will be going for the vwr/sachs clutch kit to cope with the torque :happy2:

like both Luca and TC have said we are a forum and we are trying to let people know what could be a problem with the cars running bigger bhp over stock and we are finding out the bad bits that cant cope with the torque and you dont buy a gti to drive it like a fairy  :driver: its a drivers car for people that want to drive and play with the car if they want   :happy2:

I apologize for my harsh words, come down with flu and put me in a narky mood.

Anyhow you have answered your clutch slip issues Luca, too much torque and power running through a stock clutch which can't cope over time, it is effectively reducing the life span of the clutch when you remap

So the problem is the remap, not fog grilles etc, unless you wish to upgrade your clutch to one which can cope with a remap

After cracking a new set of Brembo discs on a track day (my own fault  :rolleye:) I had a go at venting them through the fog grilles, had to move the horn and use SHV2-63 Forge ducting, its a tight squeeze especially with a Forge Twintercooler fitted and you need to cut a hole in the inner wheel arch but it seems to work ok.

I saw the carbon fog grilles at the TT Shop and have installed a cone behind the slot vent to channel the air through the ducting.

Hope this helps, Neil

^^^^
Thanks for posting that info, Neil :happy2:

Some GTI's (mine for example) already have a rectangular opening in the front of the wheel arch - 06-Build / 05-plate / AXX-series.

Having seen your OSIR's in the flesh at The Pod, I really like them and my Hella LED DRL's (fog replacements) are just a wee bit tight around the stock honeycombe panels. So, next time you remove them could you possibly PM me an accurate millimetre diameter across the 'fog' aperture at the rear, please?

Let us know the part nos please. And the obligatory pics once fitted.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
