R36 Golf Rallye.......
« on: September 29, 2010, 05:24:54 am »
I don't normally post up ebay links, but just had to bring this to your attention.
I spotted it on another forum but just had to share on here:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Golf-Rallye-R36-Unique-opportunity-buy-/270633530432?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3f0303f440

I deliberately didn't post this up in the for sale section as I don't know the seller and know nothing about the car, but you have to admit that it's a pretty interesting proposition and must be amazing to drive!

Yeah, love that. There's been a similar one on Pistonheads for ages though, at the same price too.

It's lovely, but it isn't £15k lovely in my eyes - this and its sister have been for sale for a long long time now, so clearly others feel likewise. Shame though, as the work is exceptional and you couldn't do it yourself for less.

A friend is building an R32 motor'd Rallye track car at the mo, t'is nice!!
Sideways yo!

If.....and only if you had the time to hoik the things around all the shows all summer then it might reasonably be worth 10k imvho, even then you'd still only have the buzz of owning it only as opposed to owning and building it if you had even commisioned the work yourself let alone got your hands dirty.

Take the engine out and its a 20 year old golf...used R36 engine what.....2 grand on the bay?

Too nice to track, too expensive to own to show somebody elses work off. Its also hardly finished off when its pushing 300BHP with 280mm single piston 22mm wide discs!!! and we moan about Ed30 brakes! :stupid:

That is a stunner of an EditionOne, i very very nearly had one of these cars with the original G60 engine in before i opted for the Mk5 Golf as i dont think i'd have enjoyed an older car as much as i do the newer one with its extra features, altho i'd have a Mk2 as a 2nd car in a heartbeat if i could!!

Just sold my 1991 G60, I will be brutally honest, compared to the mk5 they are sh*te!

That will upset some people I am sure.

The best mk2 without a shadow of doubt, and I have owned a few, is the 16V!

I didn't particularily like my G60, I have always wanted one, and I had a low mileage (80,000) but it just didn't seem to be a GTI, which it is/was.

This R36 at £15k is way too expensive, plus some of the styling doesn't appeal.

Have you seen the original mileage too!

But I am not buying it so my opinion counts for sh*t.

Just out of interest, why would you rate the 16V as the best MK2? I've been casually looking for a MK2 or MK1 GTi as a 2nd car/project!

I have seen that Edition One (G6 TEE) at a couple of shows and I think he was on the Dubforce forum when I had mine.

That is very cheap for that car, its stunning.

But one of the reasons I exited the Mk2 game is the spares situation is dire!

You just can't get anything.

For example, I have a Golf G60 grill badge in my garage, clips in tact, £100 to you sir, I searched high, low, sideways to get it!

I am now not sure if I want to let it go!

Just in case you see!

Also right off any spare time as you will be underneath the damn thing.

The engine.

Its just, lovely, revs, revs, revs.

Only one downer is the inability to fit an induction kit, but Pipercross (?) do a drop in induction now.

I just sold my Ultra Rare Schwarz Blau 1990 in complete standard condition for really silly money.

Big time regret now as what I sold it for I could have kept it.

Before anyone asks.................to get my ED30 I sold my 1967 Split, 1991 G60, 1990 16V and 1989 8V!

Plus a garage full of VW parts NOS.

Needed to simplify things and I don't miss it, at the moment!

Still have a hankering for an early Notch/Square and a MK1 GTI!

But divorce........................
