Cals TDI Sport
« on: February 08, 2009, 12:46:19 pm »
After 5 long weeks (felt a lot longer believe me) looking for my mk5 I finally handed the cash over for the 3dr TDI sport in steel grey  :grin:
Its in top condition for a 55 plated car... other than the paintwork which was neglected to say the least  so could do with having a proper job done on it (with the 200 squid i got knocked off for this reason) if any one has got any advice or recommendations i would be gratful.

there are quite a few light scuffs and scratches and the bonnet feels rough as if bird crap hasnt been cleaned of and the lacquer is a bit worse for ware
im sure a lot will come out with a good polish, what products would be best to use?

Have a look over on Detailing World. There's huge amounts of information there but basically:

Hand polish = Autoglym Super Resin gives the best results (can't find the thread but it's there).
Machine polish = use Meguiars pads and Menzerna polishes, apparently a very good (and cheapish) combo. Machine polishers: rotary and dual action are the two kinds. Rotary polishers are recommended but not advised for beginners. Dual action aren't as good esp for very deep scratches but good for general paint correction and for newbies.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

it certainly is, will be even better when its all shined up to its former glory

revo + controller from quattronics is on the cards at a discounted price  :jumpmove:, gti brakes and hopefully some Pescaras in anthracite are at the top of my list for now. Wish list includes xenons, gti interlagos cloth seats and coilovers but will need to get saving for those.

worth getting then!?? 145bhp and 235ft/lb sounds good to me especially since that will be only 1 torques short of a standard .:R32  :P:driver:

I would second that suggestion!  £200 and a bit should see a professional giving your car a pretty decent level of paintwork correction - then it is just a job of maintaining it through carefull cleaning (two bucket method) - with perhaps another detail every year or so to keep is pristine...
