Turbo inspection / service

Hi All,

I've managed to track down a K04 turbo with apparent low mileage and should be receiving it next week, before i go thru the hassles of fitting it once i've sourced the other bits i need i want to get it inspected to ensure all is well and if not either get it serviced so all is well or if the cost is excessive get it returned for my money back.

My question is, having not needed to get this type of work done before, can any of you recommend any companies? There are 2 companies i've spoken with to get this work done but I'd prefer to use someone thats had a positive feedback if possible to make it a bit less of an unknown.

I'm in Herts, but the turbo isnt on a car, so shipping to anywhere isnt an issue.
The 2 companies I've spoken with are Turbo Technics and Turbo Dynamics

Other companies to look at are CR Turbos and Universal Turbos.  I prefer both over TD and TT.

Can I ask why? I'm hoping to get a little more info so I can make a decision on who to use

I use Universal Turbos all of the time for hybrids, rebuilds, testing etc.... They also build the T28 hybrids that we use on our Noble M12 big turbo kit.

You have bought one that's for the TFSI engine right (integrated with manifold) and not the old version which is seperate from the Mani (used on the 1.8 20VT)

Yep its spot on the correct model for the car, my only question marks are that you cant see any faults with a turbo unless its practically falling apart, so its things like making sure its balanced and oil seals are good that i want confirming before i go thru the hassle of swapping it over along with all the other bits to go to K04 from K03.

From speaking with the 2 companies i mentioned above i'm looking at around the £65+VAT area for them to take it apart, check the balance and seal condition then spool up to verify all is well and print out all results. If anything is wrong then they can quote for repair cost but if all is well i have a verified good turbo before i start dismantling things - and i'd much rather that cost to check it than finding out once its all been put together and then have to take it all apart again
