Anyone have a definitive list of what wheels will clear 18z calipers?

Hello all,

This is my first post on this forum so please go easy on me if I do something wrong  :innocent:

I recently picked up a set of (very dirty) bbs ch024 (oem audi 7.5 x 18 ET54)

I am having a really tough time finding either vw or bbs center caps for these wheels and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction?

Cheers

NK

Anyone have a definitive list of what wheels will clear 18z calipers?

That's all relative really, depends on what width/ET/diamter the wheels are, what height you're running the car, what tyres you have etc. If it helps I have 19" BBS CH026 which are 8" wide ET50. Im running an 11mm spacer to clear the 18z and that is bare minimum. I believe people say you need 12mm spacers with Pescara's to clear. Other wheels have more clearance so if I were to run an OZ Ultraleggera in the same size setup as I have currently they have more brake clearance due to the spoke/centre layout.

What setup are you looking to run?

Anyone have a photo of the edition 30 wheels on a standard red gti? Just wanting to get an idea how it’ll look without all the plastics painted red. Thanks.

Don’t suppose anyone knows the centre cap size for BBS CH024’s from an Audi A3 do they?
I got some new VW caps, but they’re waaay too small, so ended up using some stick on ones for the time being. I’m now wanting proper caps for when I fully refurb the wheels.

I’ve measured the outside and it looks to be 70mm, but can’t quite accurately measure the inside diameter.

I haven't found anything remotely like this in this forum. There may be, I'm just not seeing it. So, I'll post it and perhaps the OP can copy and paste in the first post so to be easier to find. I know it is relative to original ride height given it relates to drop, but it is somewhat close regardless.

Can anyone help me, I have bought some genuine Porsche 996 rims 7.5 x17 front 8.5x17 rear,
Tyres are 225/45/17 front 245/40/17 rear offset is 50, with the porsche adapters, will these fit ok? The car is not lowered

Depends on the adapters...With no adapters, oem offset is 51et and oe is 18x7.5 wheels and run 225 series. So, those you have should run the fronts about flush with where oe would be and the rear should be about/near 10mm more outward. But since I know not what the adapter thickness is, you will need to do the measuring of them and apply the additional measurement to the existing wheels to see where the new ones might end up. Find a straight edge...you can add and attach something to the edge to mimic the additional poke and see where the straight edge ends up. Or, try holding the straight edge at the additional poke(tougher to do). Basically, you need to see where the wheels you have now would be in relation to the fender/arch with the spacer/adapter thickness added to the front; and the spacer thickness plus 10mm in the back.

i find this site very useful. put in your current wheel set up and your designed set up ans it shows on the left the change. IE.

stock: 18" with 225 40 18 ET51
desired: 17" with 235 45 17 ET45

0.3mm closer to the strut, 12.4mm more pokeing out,
30mph will now be 29.72mph
60mph will now be 59.43mph

ride hight gain 3.05mm

Looks great Irish_Mk5!

Is the car on standard suspension (and therefore ride height?)

Did you have OEM wheels on before and where they 18" as well?

Wonder if you have noticed a change in ride "quality"?

Originals were 17” but given the difference in tyre sizes I have kept the overall wheel the same size.
Am currently still on stock suspension because it’s a daily driver. It would look much better lowered though!
Haven’t seen any change in ride quality- but I think that’s a good thing as it can get worse with the thinner tyres

Thank you for the reply. The Hyper GT look great. I'd like to get either those or maybe the Ultraleggera, but in 17"... In the hope the increased profile might be getter suited to the appealing roads I have to drive here in East Sussex.
