Thanks  :happy2:

Have been thinking about clutches a lot recently as I think I will get an uprated one for my S3 before I go to 2+ as I don't want the hassle and downtime further down the line.  How noisey are the Helix SMF's?

I am reporting you to the moderators!

Well out of order!

You are not aloud to post shiny go faster things just before xmas!

And that clutch looks soooooooooooo nice, too nice to be hidden inside an oily engine/gearbox!

Helix SMF's are very rattley (if thats the right word). Ask toast he has had one fitted for abt 1000mls now. It performed very well on the strip a few weeks ago. I am very close to fitting one myself. Looks a quality bit of kit.

Its not really the flywheel thats noisy, but its the flywheel that can cause the noise.  Its the gearbox thats making the chatter sound and each car is different so some make the chatter and some dont.  The chatter is generally only on idle.

Has anyone ever done Helix clutch + OEM DMF?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

heard good things about helix...shame their website is from the 1990's still tho lol.

but i guess they are a smaller firm vs sachs and caters more for motorsport clients than daily drivers.

at least they're a british company doing good products.

i didn't fancy my sachs set up in the GTI in start stop traffic...it really was a heavy bugger even after run in.

when ur having fun on back roads and stuff and looking for fast gear changes then its great. but daily driving its not ideal.

Clutch is only rattley on start up from cold when idle but after a minute it quietens down :innocent: Awesome bit off kit  :driver:

I'm going to try the stage 3 file first then go from there.  Should be ok with the turbo.

Well last Monday I got the diff and clutch all fitted.  I will get round to doing a review of both the items when I get a free hour or two.  All I can say is 'Wow'.  The diff is amazing.  Really pulls you round the corners, and works much faster than the usual Peloquins and Quaife diffs.  The clutch is also great.  Pedal is heavier than I was expecting, but not silly heavy, just gives great feel.  Just been bedding the clutch in and there is less judder everyday I use it.  Being the 6 paddle this is expected.  There is no idle chatter, just a little bit of box noise coming down the revs in the higher gears, but hardly noticable.  My ibiza was running an alloy flywheel and had massive idle chatter and loads of box noise.  The clutch had transformed the way the car drives.  Boost comes in faster and lower down the revs and holds better at the top.  Car feels much faster than before and I now have no slip in 5th anf 6th.  My original flywheel was fooked.  Loads of excess play which I could feel from the day I bought it.

The whole job took me most of the day inc answering the work phone and having a luch break.  Box was also removed without causing any need for an alignment.

Here are some pics.  I forgot to take any of the diff mounted with the final drive.  Pics are from my phone rather than my slr hence the sh*te quality.  Left the camera at home!

Got to have the right tools for the job:
