S3 Intercooler.
« on: October 04, 2010, 01:38:04 pm »
Has anybody ordered an S3 intercooler and pipes within the last month?

If so do they know if it has plastic end caps now or still is metal welded on end caps as before?

Thanks

£415 inc vat posted on the brand new S3 cooler.  £500 inc vat plus postage on the THS which i still have (not advertised anywhere yet)

K04 hybrid will be using a larger comp wheel to get rid of the k04's surge and allow loads more mid and top end boost.  The bearings have also been uprated and a very small cutback on the exhaust wheel.  We dont go mad on cutbacks or you gain loads of lag.  Ive had the turbo done to be a smooth and progressive as possible to help with wheel spin and aid getting the power down out of the corners.

It wont be to everyones taste, but passenger rides will be available one ive finished all the work on it.  As mine is a BWA i will be doing the rods as well to be on the safe side.

Am very interested to hear how the hybrid performs Alex so please report back when you have it installed.  Will you be getting a custom map for it, if so who will you be using?

Going to try with the revo stage 3 file first.  It asks for quite alot at the top, but the standard K04 cant hold the boost that well.  If the stage 3 is no good then a trip to revo should sort it out

For you it would be a stage 2+ file if it works ok with a stage 3 on mine.

I just want to make something thats inbetween the K04 and the 3071, but way better than the 2871 kits that are far worse than the standard k04's.

400 bhp is the plan with plenty of mid range punch, just not everything at once.

How would you say the S3 compares to the THS?

One of my ideas was to fit the S3 with a Forge Twintercooler but not sure if I could fit that with the THS so would that set up be better than just a THS?

Let me know as the price difference between the 2 isn't worth worrying about.

Alex, do you do the hybrid work on a standard KO4? What kind of cost is involved and does it use the standard integrated exhaust manifold?

Very interested in this.

Hurdy put up a topic about 404bhp with a hybrid KO4

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,19944.0.html

So really you should be looking at about that figure?

Whereabouts are you based mate?

We seem to have two threads in one here. I thought the topic was S3 intercoolers, not hybrid turbo's.
Discussion about hybrid turbo's is good but would be better in its own thread.

Yes RR your correct, I didn't think it would be a problem because I started it and I was the one who went off topic.

I was thinking that anyway before you interjected.

But it doesn't help for future searches does it so I will start another topic now.

Cheers,

J

I'm a fine one to talk regarding going off topic - I'm always doing it!

It just happened to get a bit A-B-A-B-A-B and my old brain got addled. Also better for others not to bury the hybrid turbo subject here.

THS is far better than the S3 in terms of flow and cooling cababilities.  The S3 one is small in comparison.  I had the option of the S3, THS and the twintercooler for the vRS and went straight for the THS.

The only issue I have with the twintercooler is the silicon pipework.  Its a very poor fit.
