S3 intercooler
« on: January 16, 2011, 03:25:06 pm »
I know it's been covered before had a look through search but just wondered anyone who is running a s3 cooler whether it's made a great difference?
Labour isn't a problem as I've seen people put off because of the work involved.

Thanks

done mine myself but it was a big job and you need two people to do it. It took me 4 hrs and im above average (7/10) with a spanner and ratchet.... IMO its a worthwhile upgrade to work with the twintercooler, you need the hoses from the S3 as well.

S3 cooler is cheaper than Pro alloy or THS (prob not as good but almost half the price and OEM)
The main problem i see is all of the above regardless of claimed efficiency are obstructed by the condensor (air con) rad which means the twintercooler is by far a better product based on the fact it has no real obstruction from atmosphere apart from the grille (and that has plently of holes in it lol)

S3 and Twintercooler are the favs by loads on here, start with S3 cooler and get Twinter later on if need be.

Yeh think it will be  a noticeable difference over standard  does anyone have the dimensions of standard gti IC? Just for comparison.
Will be fitting myself at work I'm an Audi technician fitted plenty of S3 ICs I'd imagine pretty much the same to fit..

the diffence being it holds 2.5 ltrs more volume....in a nutshell its slighly thicker and has ally endcaps over the gti which has plastic. you will need to source some screws as the ones on ETKA are WRONG!!!!!! do NOT use them as they are self tapers and the ally end caps have an M6 already taped into them (so hammering a self taper in is not a goood plan lol). i can provide a part number of the screws i used from VW if you want?

As mentioned above it is a bit of a pig of a job to fit but it is worthwhile if you are remapped and makes a noticeable difference in the hotter summer months.
