How much more costly is the R32 to generally run and maintain over the ED30 though?

TBH I don't think there is a huge difference between the two. I had a highly tuned ED30 and my overall average was 24mpg. I can't see an R32 being any lower than that to be honest 

Yes but if you had a R32 the overall average would be 16.

I had an 05 Gti for 2 yrs and have an 07 Edition 30 now, only really wanted the Edition 30 for its track day tunning potential, even before the mods the E 30 was doing  4/5 seconds a lap quicker round Snetterton (haven't done Snett with the LSD yet). The only thing I do notice is the Turbo kicking in later on the E 30, (2200 compaired to 1800) and sometimes a bit more lag than I can remember having before.
Also its quite nice having a limited edition car even though they made a few to many.

Probably true. I managed to get 21mpg out of the dieseasel on the way home from work last night. I hate to think what it would have been like in an R32

well the mk4 r32 was bad on fuel, but i think you'd be surprised with the mk5 version, i achieve 25mpg all day long, 35-40mpg with cruise on the motorway

maybe it's cos the legs on mine are longer and take longer to stretch between gears than yours

celica,  the 2.0T is so much smoother even when remapped than the 1.8T is, you still feel the turbo but just not as .. how to put it ..  vicious

Rob, you've had plenty of GTI's so maybe an Ed30/Pirelli model might be the next step but like others have said - they are effectively the same car, one just having slightly more power if you need it - dont you fancy something different, was that your 2nd or 3rd GTI?

only been in a mk5 gti as a passenger and was impressed by the flexibility, although be it we weren't pushing on.
the 1.8T isn't what i call vicious, but hard to compare when the 225 version has a k04 turbo

Tom, can you remember that guy in the merc ML, who came up behind us, gave us a sh*tty look and put his foot down? ML280 - BIG DADDY. he was such a knob. he got a shock when we booted it! haha!

Ive spied a Blue R32, spoke to the dealer and can get a straight swap for my ED30, I do stuff like that when i'm bored ,

Not sure what to do, gonna sleep on it.

Having got back from a quick blast changed my mind lol, never gonna swap!!!!!!!!!!!!!
