Well,

This just turned up now:

First impressions on quality are that it is sh1te and will most likely be going back!

The quallity of the material is pretty good and rivals OEM quality, however the mould is clearly crap and the finishing is very poor. It's all one piece too which means it's more difficult to spray. The exhaust cutout also looks an odd shape.

There are defects in the mould that will need a lot of filling to get perfect and the 2 ends are a completely different shape!

defect:

Left side:

right side:

It's too much to try to bend to fit so I don't think it's ever going to work :sad1:

Once again, buy OEM or buy twice!

:( Shame, it looked like was a product worth considering.......but yes, the shape is out. Bend it, it will crack.....or it will start pulling away from std bumper :(

It shouldn't crack as it's plastic like the standard bumper, not fibreglass. It's pretty flexible, but too stiff to sit right. As you say, it will pull away from the bumper.

It would be worth considering as long as you have the time, tools and expertise to put it right. I can do it, I'm just wondering whether it's worth it. It's going to require heating to bend it to the correct shape, then the imperfections and defects all need filling and smoothing. The mounts for the reflectors need a bit of work as does the tow eye hole. Then it's going to need careful masking and spraying.

I'm weighing up whether it's better to do all this prep work or buy an R32 OEM rear and adapt it to fit the GTI exhuast... I'll mull it over this weekend

....If you do decide to buy the oem R32 'Rear Spoiler' (aka Bumper), I think you can source an exhaust trim accommodating GTI twin pipes which will fit it. As I posted earlier (I think in this thread) the genuine oem R32 Rear Spoiler comes with cut-outs for all exhaust configurations.

how come your towing hook is still attached in the photo R/R...hope you have took it of

....No.

It doesn't protrude beyond the overall body line. Some other oem cars have fixed non-protruding tow eyes.

My front one is removed for road use as it does protrude.

How much is the Genuine R32 rear bumper from a dealer? I quite like the idea of having this done in combination with a centre exit Milltek exhaust , as its a good looking mod that could be Factory equipment.

Any idea where to get this part?  I've been on the look out for a while

I doubt it as the parking sensors should be fitted in teh upper half of the bumper, not the detachable section
