My MK5
« on: October 09, 2010, 04:48:23 pm »
Been busy with the MK5, got it all kitted out with the winter wheels and tyres. I had to end up getting a set of Khumo's they are quite soft so not sure how long they will last.

I know the car is very dirty but its impossible to keep it clean up here as the roads are like farmers fields just now..[:x]

I managed to pick up a RCD510 off ebay and finished fitting it yesterday. This turned out to be an epic job as the can gateway has to be updated to stop the battery being drained and also to allow the fitting of the MDI unit. The gateway is right under the dash between the steering column and the clutch peddle. It took me a while to get it out and the new one fitted. The coding of the new unit was also fun, for a while my car was convinced that it was a LHD. I got there in the end, the RCD 510 is a nice bit of kit and the interfece to the iPod is very good.

The RCD 510 also integrated the arm rest 6 CD player as well so i have a 6 MP3 cd capability in the unit its self the 6 CD unit in the arm rest the iPod and an SD card slot. I didn't bother hooking up the 3.5mm AUX jack...

Nice winter wheels.  :happy2:

You need to sort the white balance on your camera to avoid the blue hue in your pics.  :happy2:

Looks like a great set of winter wheels you have there, and if the roads are as bad as you say, they will give you a much smoother ride. (that is if your wheels/tyres  are 17" like I think)  :ashamed:

I bought my 19's with brand new Kuhmo Ecsta KU31's on em. I am gonna change em, just because I have seen an unmissable deal on some Conti's.
All the local tyre guys seem to highly rate the Kuhmo's and TBH I think they are pretty good. Yeah they are quite a bit noisier than my 18" Conti's, and Also, I haven't really thrown the car round many corners with em on, but as a mid range tyre I reckon they are ok.

I think having them as your winter tyres they will be fine  :happy2:

I usually run Toyo snow prox ones but can't get them this year, first impressions of the Khumos is good and as you say a better ride with the 17".
